so i know that people use online dating services like eharmony to "find love", but why not just wait for it to come to you?
its pretty impersonal and if you ever set a date you will never know if the person is for real. for example i know a couple of girls who created an account for fun, but what if someone of the other end thought it was a serious relationship, and wanted to meet them?
so what do you think?

Well I think dating websites serve good purpose. You might meet someone (who is your other half) online and it might not have been someone you would have met on a normal basis because of geographical regions possibly?
As far as them being fake, I guess that's a toughie? I'm not really sure how to tell, maybe the conversation they hold with you...if it sounds immature or strange?
Although, if someone pays for a website, there is less chance of them actually being fake. I think meeting online is an excellent way to meet others, especially for really shy people, etc. I've recommended it to lots of people, as I met my fiance online!

Never used one of those sites, but you might want to have your friends read the sign up. They could be in trouble for falsifying information. Some of the legit dating sites take there membership very serious and prosecute for false information.
There have been a few marriages from some of these sites and some have been married for years.
Personally I think there OK, but just like a real date. Meet someplace safe the first time.

eHarmony is not like the usual dating sites. It's ONLY for long term / marriage. Not the occasional meeting / dating.

As for the general dating sites, it depends on a lot of things. Some people are VERY busy, new to the city, don't go out in bars and such, are very shy to appoach others.

There are as many reasons are there are people.

Meeting people online can be tricky. You never know who they might be. But then again, how is that different from meeting someone at a party or at a club?
Have you noticed how people always comment on the news about how this and that criminal looks like a regular Joe? "...he looked like such a nice man... I can't believe he's on America's Most Wanted!!!..."
