Would it work to ask " If you truly believe in firing me, may I resign instead?

The thing is I didn't put my last employer of which I got fired from on my resume or neither did I mention it in the interview. I have been working there for a few years now.

Lying on a resume or job applications is reason for termination. However, an ommission is not lying. I took a job once and left after 3 weeks. I do not list this on my resume.
However, if you worked at a company for an extended time and then fudge dates on your resume to hide the time then that's lying.
Also what was the reason for firing at your last job? Was it due to not showing..did you have extenuating circumstances (poor child care...illness..inmaturity??). Or were you caught stealing petty cash? Depending on the reason for termination, you might be able to talk your way out of being fired here. Key is to not panic and be rational.
But yes, I would have my resume updated (and honest). Call a few agencies.

I wouldn't have lied on my resume to begin with. Prospective employers are very cautious and do their best to check out the applicant. Being caught for lying on a resume is immediate grounds for dismissal--there is no legal recourse for the employee because you knowingly misrepresented yourself. You can (and most likely will) get fired on the spot, and there's nothing you can do about it. So don't lie in the first place.
But if one already lied and was found out, start looking for another job right away.

Just stay cool, your there a few years so they must be fairly happy with you. If it's said to you, lie again. Tell them it must have happened at the place where you got your C.V's done, you must have put in a old one with the newer one that has your ex-boss on. Or you could just tell the truth, which would be a bad idea seen as you left it so long, say nothing, act surprised if it's said to you. And remember Lying got you into this, let Lying get you out.

First, be aware of the fact that they have the right to fire you for it. If you are confronted, it's a good idea to say that right off. "I realize you have the right to fire me for it, but I hope you won't. I hope I've demonstrated my ability and usefulness to the firm enough by now that you don't need to fire me. I apologize for my presumption in lying about that, but frankly, I needed a job very badly, and I hoped no one (don't say specifically "you") would check it out. It was a dumb thing to do, and I really am sorry."
But do brace yourself to get fired anyway, especially if the lie was about something important.

SHAME ON YOU.
FESS UP, TELL YOUR BOSS WHY YOU DID IT AND HOPE HE LETS IT GO. IF YOU'VE BEEN WORKING THERE FOR A WHILE, YOU MUST BE DOING THINGS RIGHT. SO YOU HAVE ALREADY PROVED YOU CAN DO THE JOB.

You should apologize first and then pls explain why (e.g. you'd like to get this job and how much interested it). You can be accepted.

I wouldn't do anything. They'd either fire me or not, it's up to them not you.
