I find it very interesting an refreshing to have a philosophical difference with a person who has given considerable thought to his positions. I may disagree with you on your stances. But you do not invest in hyperbole and so I feel we can discuss the topics. I have commented on other questions.
I do not feel that criminals can be changed with love. You remark that you are a proud liberal. I am proud Conservative. I think that criminals have lost their human card and do not deserve to be amongst people. We have a social compact set up with the norms that all must follow. They have broken the compact and deserve nothing less then accepted destine.

I think the killers and rapists out there are pretty good at exploiting people for their love. Offering "love" to the most dreaded people in the world is a self-defeating excercise.
On the other hand....there are lots of people in the world who have good hearts, but end up making bad decisions for any number of reasons....and end up in prison. Lots of people out there in prison who can be "softened up" by love, although its not always easy to tell the difference between those who can be rehabhilitated and those who are hardcore psychopaths. Short answer: Some things are best left to the professionals!

Undoubtedly love has greatest of cementing powers. The central message of Jesus's teaching is love. Love can achieve miracles. In fact most developed countries have reform programmes on their statute book. These programmes are designed to reform convicted prisoners by imparting technical skills which will help them to lead respectable and peaceful lives once they serve their sentence. In other words these programmes are based on the premise that no one is born a thief or a convict. Difficult cicumstances such as societal inequlities and injustices transform an honest individual to revolt and adopt criminal ways. Therefore society owes them to have these corrective mechanisms instituted. Question here is can we adopt these methods to correct Islamic terrorists which probably is the most burning problem of our times? The answer is a clear and unambiguous NO. The reasons are not hards to seek. The terrorist activities are fuelled by a different set of paradigms and philosophies. They are primarily driven by intense hate achieved in special camps where the subjects are indocrinated relentlessly besides imparting fighting skills based on deception and surprise. Their minds are so intensely poisoned that it is a loosing battle to attempt any reformation. The best option is to elimininate them using the same tactics of deception and suprise. To sum up while love and reformatory schools can well be applied gainfully for killers rapists and the like it is a definite No as for as terrorists are concerned.

Yes, criminals are also human beings. In psychology, there is Maslow's heirarchy of needs. Racist, killers etc. have their own reasons for doing those stuff. Maybe, they have low-self esteem, lbad family background and everything.
Everyone calls it love. But there are three kinds of love. Passionate which is the sensual (sometimes sexual love), Intimate which is partnership love and commitment which is a solemnized love. True love is a combination of all. Most youthful criminals need intimacy love of family. While old ones need committment. If you want to know more check out Jenny king's book in your bookstore.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of criminals would enjoy your love and affection. Maybe you and your family can open up your home to violent criminals that are released back into the public. Sounds great to me. I hope you never lose a loved one or a friend to such crimes. You would think different.

Sounds great. Let's round all these people up and bring them to your house so you can love them. Mind you, we'll have to keep them there so that we can ensure they are getting love 24/7. That way the rest of us can go about the business of loving our family / friends without worrying about your peeps sneaking out between love-ins for a quicky rape or killing.
