when asked "How many of you breastfeeders think you are better than formula using parents?
Be honest, if you think you are better, just say so. Just explain why and how you come to this conclusion." by Khalis M, sm51119 replied "If someone believes breastfeeding is better for there baby then they shouldnt be having a baby:If someone believes breastfeeding is better for there baby then they shouldnt be having a baby". MY QUESTION IS: Are there really people who think this way? That breastfeeding is detrimental to an infant?(under normal circumstances of course)

Not to offend Lisa Shelter but I think the remark should be taken at face value, this person obviously thinks that breastfeeding is somehow inferior to formula, that in some way formula has surpassed breastmilk. If you look at the post in question you'll get a bit more detail. And just for the record I have 2 girls, one of which was formula fed and the other breastfed. I think I have sufficient information on breastfeeding and why it is good for babies and also why formula is a great thing too. But I was under the impression that breastmilk itself (from a healthy mother, no drugs, alcohol or illness) was better by far than any "created" substitutes. I would just like to hear from those who think otherwise and why about the substance difference between breastmilk and formula.

Well, first of all, it looks like sm51119 can't tell the difference between there, their and they're. So, are you really interested in an uneducated persons opinion. Secondly, there has been actual research done on babies who were breastfed and ones that weren't, so that kinda quashes that argument.

In response to your question, I'd like to say that there are people who believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows, so yes I believe that there are actually people walking on this earth who believe that breastfeeding can harm a baby. And the scary part about it is, they are probably someones parents!

Hi, I think the person who made the remark which you questioned
was actually implying that those who prefer breastfeeding are
"snooty" or snobby and therefore should not have babies.
In other words, that person resented those who insist that
breastfeeding is always superior.
I don't think he/she meant to say that breastfeeding is inferior
or detrimental but rather that it bothers him/her that others always
hold it up as being superior.
Many people who formula feed their babies are bothered by the
fact that some people feel compelled to insist that they should
instead breast feed. No one should demand that anyone else
breastfeed, as there may a number of reasons that the person
cannot or will not breast feed.
Feel free to email me at lisashetler@yahoo.com and I
hope this has been a bit helpful.
Sincerely,

The saying is "Breast is best."

I did both all 3 of my kids thrived and survived! I think I breastfed my 3 for about 6 months then switched to bottles & formula.

The girl next door did breast at first but switched to bottle. She couldn't keep up with supply & demand for her triplets!

Breastfeeding is the best food for your child. It has antibodies and many good things for the child. They suffer less from ear infections, allergies & other ailments.

Breastfeeding takes alot of time, patience and diligence on the mothers part. You have to eat right and drink plenty of extra fluids to keep your milk supply up.

I tried just wasn't for me to keep it up longer than 6 months. Am I a bad mother? Not in the least. Neither are the ones who stick it out for the 12 months or longer.

Yes honey, you are going to encounter many uneducated people out there that do not know what they are talking about. It's not their fault they are stupid, they just didn't get the proper nuturing from their mothers!
Our breast are quite remarkable. They are there to attact to opposite sex and once that is accomplished they are there to feed the offspring of our commitment.
Men get jealous because they think that our breasts are there soley for their pleasure. MIne, Mine, Mine... just like the babies they get jealous of!
Breastfeeding is not only better for the babies, it;s better for the mommies too! You give the babies ammunities thru your milk that they cannot reproduce thru formulas no matter how hard they try ! The nurishment is all natural and is what breasts are intended to do. It also stimulates the woman. Not in a sexual way. It stimulates her hormones and her endorphins, so that she feels better about herself and also helps to lose the weight she gained during pregnacy.
I would not suggest going out in public and flopping your breasts out. This is not acceptable as people get offended by it , just like if a man would urinate in public. Natural, yes.. but private.
LaLeache leagues are all over, see your DR. for imformation on them.

For the record I breast-fed both of my boys.. (but after a bad case of mastitis I moved on to extra calorie preemie formula with my youngest.)

I see both sides of it.. I mean I don't think they believe that breast-feeding is bad.( It is a great way to give your child what they need & to bond.) But I get tired of mom's out their who give me dirty looks because I am buying formula. In my opinion formula moms aren't against breast-feeding moms.. Just some of their -Holyer Than Thow- attitude.

Oh & PS not everyone can have correct spelling. Give mom's a break. I am sure we have all on occasion been sleep deprived, but missed the adult conversation of the internet & chose the wrong word from spell check.. All moms need to stick together! Geesh!!!!
