Well, it's hard if you want to stay in the Midwest; I think the latest numbers indicate about 80% of the porn in the US is produced and filmed in Southern California. The only way to do it is to do "amateur" videos in generally interesting filming locations and market them on the Internet -- porn hounds online don't care where it's filmed, as long as they can get quality material for cheap. Make sure to get a business license and a real company name; if you copyright your material, at least you can try to keep it from being distributed on the web without you getting a cut of the proceeds. If you're just looking to get into the films themselves and NOT start a film studio, I'm sure you can find someone to film you where you're at, but you'd be a lot more likely to get seen (and get paid for it) if you move to LA.
