Oh, it'll be crappy no matter what you try- there will be bumped elbows and heads, awkward facial expressions, and just general embarassment regarding your (and perhaps your partner's) inexperience. That's why it's easiest to have sex the first time with someone you're in a relationship with; they probably won't be as quick to judge you and will be willing to try again.
On a similar note, masturbating beforehand might prolong things. Good luck, and remember to use protection! :)

First, I commend you for waiting! Second....the answer to your question is......... to wait longer!
Having sex for the sole purpose of having had sex is always "crappy". You can never get back what you give away that first time....make sure that you give it to the right person and with only the best intentions.
Also, take charge of your health. Protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy and disease. Use a condom.
Lastly, learn about your body, a females body and the sex organs. Knowing how your body works will enhance your experience.
I hope that you can find someone special to share yourself with...preferably within the sanctity of a marriage and then have fun and experiment.
