Hey,
Listen, don't worry about it. If you are freaking out about making friends, just calm down and relax or people will be able to tell you are nervous. I started at a new school this year as well (I'm in grade nine) and there's only a few things I needed to do before I made friends with people:
1) I smiled even when I felt crappy inside. So SMILE, it makes everyone feel good about themselves, you and the other person!
2) Don't worry about your hiccups, everyone gets 'em. If it's a major problem and you feel really self conscious about it, talk to your parents or see a doctor who may be able to do something.
3) Also, don't worry about "looking cute". In the long run, being cute, hot or pretty isn't going to matter as long as you are a beautiful person on the inside. In movies, the popular people always seem to be really pretty. In actual fact, they are only superficially popular. It's not genuine, they suck up to the people with connections. You don't have to be a suck up, so don't worry about trying hard to impress, just be yourself and I promise, someone will like it.
4) About the public speaking and finding it difficult to talk, you could have a chat to a teacher at school, possibly the principal or deputy about this. I have a stutter (or stammer, whichever) so I find it INCREDIBLY HARD to speak to other people because EVERY time I do, I stutter. So I know how you feel about looking like a loser. Anyway, I talked to the school guidance officer (counsellor) and he said he'd tell the teachers. He did, and now I don't have to do oral presentations, or speak in front of the class unless I want to. I also see a speech pathologist every Friday morning for free, at the local hospital. If you really feel crap when you try to talk in front of people, please talk to someone. They'll know what to do.
5) Change your mindset. Be happy, be positive. People won't think you're a loser, because this will be a new school, and no one will know you. Just follow the steps, try and make an effort to say Hey to people now and again, and who knows? You could end up with heaps of friends by the end of the year!
Hope everything works out,
Love

It is really hard to move at that age. Just try to stay true to yourself. Shy is ok. Just try to say hi to one person. If they don't respond don't take it personally. Say hi to someone else. Just hang in there. Friends are like 4 leaf clovers they are hard to find but lucky to have. and remember the Golden Rule treat people the way you want to be treated. Good Luck, Sweetie!

Friendship in eighth grade is overrated. You'll live even if you made no friends at all this year.
