The correct term would be donation, gift, or collection.When collecting money for this the best term to use would be " would you like to give a donation" or "I'm collecting a donation". Benevolence is the act of doing good. Bereavement is the act of greiving.

WHY? do it anonymously if you are doing for a group call it a collection privately donate but if its just you don't say anything, no card, no calls, unless you want to hold it over their head for some reason..
