During the day of September 11th I recall the corporate company that I work for, Whirlpool, would not be able to keep its factorys open due to the borders being closed down. The parts that it needed to make its American made product were coming from both Canada and Mexico. For a brief period in time, local companies were able to supply the parts needed at the same cost as the imported parts. So why not just shut down the borders and allow our economy to grow once again? Is this a bad idea or am I being selfish? I know we are now in a global economy but there are still people out there that hate America no matter what we do. So why should we care what happens to the rest of the world? Why do we care if someone across the ocean has a job? Just opinions.

Closing the borders is a profoundly bad idea.

It's not about selfishness or sharing with the world. You are removing an option from companies that they have today, and it will make life much more difficult for them, not easier. We would experience a short-term blip where local companies and suppliers would be used, and the U.S. would then begin a long slide into decay.

If you force a company to keep a job here, you save a job until the entire company can get the hell out, and then it will.

Under the current system, we have about 5% unemployment, so there is no need to "protect" American jobs. We need to migrate into more advanced jobs, and that means old jobs will become obsolete and move overseas. We should be concerned about our educational system right now, though.

Remember - if we cannot do something that no one else can do, or if we cannot at least do something better than anyone else, we do not deserve and cannot sustain a higher standard of living than everyone else. No amount of protectionism can protect us from that. It is a law like gravity, not a law like "gee this would be fair."

We better get our educational house in order, and stop entertaining fantasies like the one that we could protect our jobs and companies from relocating through some fancy legislation.

Yes! Close Them! Illegals won't have THE SAME rights they will HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN AMERICAN CITIZENS. Look in to it, it's true. They take all the jobs by the thousands each year. They rarley contribute to a community, they take the money out of a local economy and send it back to Old Mexico. Take care of your own problems and your own people Vincente Fox!!!!!

You're forgetting that a lot of our GDP depends on the exporting of goods to foreign markets. Closing our borders down would cause foreign markets to take drastic measures against us in retaliation.

It's more complicated than anyone really cares to know, but I can tell you that it doesn't make sense to ever CLOSE the borders except in an emergency situation...

no longer to be recommend yet.. What floor? who's united states of america? ( it variety of feels to me that the floor belonged to close by individuals, and that this united states of america develop into offered from/ fought from) If we closed borders ought to that recommend no one ought to bypass in or out? if so, then wouldnt that recommend no illegals ought to are available, and no one ought to bypass out ( sure which includes human beings already the following illegally)? which could merely create even a higher situation then what we "have" at present. in the adventure that they bypass the border at the same time as its open, do you somewhat imagine its gonna supply up them if its closed? Our economic equipment will be worse then it already is. i imagine like 80 % of our economic equipment is imports, and 20% is exports. Oil is defenetly going to deliver us down. In my own opinion. Its somewhat our fault as a united states of america that different countries dont like us. the USA as a united states of america is to nosy. we adore to get on different peoples company and invade different countries , yet assume different countries to carry close us and stay faraway from our company. We ought to correctly be a great united states of america, ought to have the appropriate protection rigidity, yet we lack what keeps different countries mutually (no longer all, yet usually another united states of america). maximum of them aren't any further combating interior of their united states of america. it variety of feels we are nonetheless combating an identical conflict we fought one hundred fifty years in the past. at the same time as do we do not forget that u . s . of america develop into formed from all nationalities, and that the merely RACE there is , is the HUMAN race.
