I'm sure I'm not the only one who is tired of the raising gas prices. I'm just wondering why the gov. can put a cap on some things (like the price shrimp farmers can charge, and the price farmers charge for corn) but they WON'T put a cap on gas prices! No one needs to make $10 billion profit in one qt. It's rediculous!
I would also like to know what your thoughts are on how to help solve the probelm, what can we do to make it better?

Most of our oil actually comes from Canada and Mexico, NOT the Middle East! and gas is something we all have to have, to get to work, so we can pay our heat bill!

Well your right it is ridiculous. Stop and think about it, Prior to 9/11 gas prices were what? Maybe 1.25 a gallon, but then all of a sudden they start climbing, and they didn't stop even after the hysteria from 9/11 declined. And if you look at the big picture what has really changed since then? Not much, aside from the U.S. now controlling Iraq. Most of the oil company's are hoping that we continue to think its because of 9/11, when in reality not much has change as far as our oil suppliers since then!

The profits are ridiculous, I'll give you that. However, keep in mind that the price per barrel of oil has gone up sharply in the past few years. It was just over a year or so ago when it jumped to $60 a barrel and that was considered drastic. Now it's in the mid 70s. You can give part of the blame to OPEC.
At the same time, something should be done about abnormal profits on a resource where the demand stays flat (doesn't change). There's no reason to be turning in record profits, especially at a time when we're at war and barrel prices are at all-time highs.

there will never be a cap on gas prices in this administration because both the pres. and vp are so heavily invested in the oil market. plus that's who put them in office in the first place. so you can just forget about that. what bush will do is start a worthless investigation into the completely unprovable practice of price gouging.
to solve the problem there needs to be a government mandate to convert to renewable fuels within a 5 year time span. we have the resources. biodiesel can be made from used cooking oil (fast food chains have an abundance) as well as renewable plant material, nuclear power plants should be built to replace dirty coal plants and wind power should be developed where applicable. cars could all be running biodiesel within 5 years. diesel engines are advanced enough now that they are superior to gasoline.
also public transportation needs to be devloped and used. tax systems as in london should be used to allleviate traffic and encourage public transport. and the rail system needs to be developed throughout the u.s. to get cars off the road between big cities.
i could go on forever but this is a start.

It's called kick backs! Our congersman and sentors are getting to much money form the oil co. If they do anything about it the money will STOP!! So when it comes time to vote again vote ALL of then OUT!!! You are right there is no sence in them f-ing oil co. getting so RICH. And we ahve to pay for it. Greedy basturds!! The ting that would stop it would be to put a winnfall tax on oil and gas. That would stop it. But like i said congress wont do that because thay are getting to much money out of it. And will here people say that I am wrong. But think about it and you will see I am right. IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY!!!! and you heard it here first from a REAL Nutcase!!!"""NUT'S""">>PS ...did i wn...did i win...did i win????

Did you know the government makes the more money on a gallon of gas (in the form of tax) than the oil co. does. So their is NOT going to be a cap on gas price. All I can tell you is go buy a bicycle.... LOL

Well, the gas company is only running at like 36% profit, while starbucks i believe is running something like 300 or 3000%, i can't remember exactly.
And, we still aren't paying as much as the Europeans. What we need to do is increase our public transportation (railroads and so forth).

I totally agree.
Unfortunately, this administration supports big business, so until we have a change, we all have to live with it.
