Yes, always. It is respect, not so much for the dead, but for the feelings of the family that are putting loved ones to rest. I would rather get there and get it done with. Not in a calus way, but, to my way of thinking the waiting has to be the worst...you are waiting for the reception, then waiting to sob your heart out...I would rather get it all over with and be alone to spend my grief, so I always stop for processions. Texas (and I truely believe we, Texans, have better manners than the rest of the country...because our mothers wil beat us if we aren't polite..lol..but not really...lol)

This is an edit..I just read the other answers....Did you notice most of the answers were from the south (of the US)...and Australia...What does that say about North America and their values?

Yes, you're supposed to let all the cars in the procession pass before you move again here in California. It's respectful to the family of the deceased.

Absolutely. This is a predominantly Southern tradition out of respect. Like several said, if you don't stop yourself, the police will stop you. But this is only still true in several Southern states. Florida

I like in bumfuk North Carolina. YES! the police will stop traffic for the procession.

Yes it is, but here the police don't generally stop people. It is more a common curtesy and showing respect.

I live in Arkansas and it is, but I don't see people stopping as much as they used to.
