There are a number of women who have used oral contraceptives to simply not have periods. They have done so continuously for decades. Some of them are physicians. There have been no observable side effects, other than those normal effects you get just from taking the pill in the first place.
Because pretty much all hormonal contraceptives trick your body into thinking it's pregnant, pretty much any one should work. Just continue taking them instead of stopping one week out of every four. Of course, this means you'll need a larger supply of contraceptives each month than many women who DO take a break. Nothing in life is free, I guess.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Firstly, this is something you need to talk to your doctor about.
As someone mentioned before, the birth control injection Depo Provera can stop a woman's period. But, after receiving these injections for one year, only 55% of women stop having periods. However, in the meantime...your periods can become (and usually do become) extremely irregular and you can bleed erradically. I was on Depo Provera for 3 years. I bled very irregularly for the first year, then my period did go away.
Here is a site about Depo Provera:
http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/dep1126.htm
There is another procedure besides a hysterectomy that can stop your period too. It's called an endometrial ablation. It is used when women have what's called dysfunctional uterine bleeding (really heavy periods). All your organs remain where they are (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes). What happens is the doctor cauterizes (burns) the lining of the uterus which destroys it. In theory, this prevents the lining from building up each month and shedding...so you don't have a period anymore.
My sister had this procedure done. It's done outpatient and usually requires only a day or two recovery. It worked for her. She completely stopped having periods. But, if you might want children in the future this is NOT the procedure to choose. It causes PERMANENT destruction of the lining of your uterus. It can NOT be "fixed" or reversed years down the road if you decide you want to have kids.
Here is a site with more info on endometrial ablation:
http://www.universityobgyn.com/endometr.htm
Again, not knowing why you want to stop your periods, the best recommendation I can give you is to talk to your OB GYN.
Good luck

Fermi of Borg has the best answer here. I am just now starting to take my oral contraceptives non-stop. It is totally worth it to me cause I HATE my period as it causes me much grief in the form of PMDD, a very severe form of PMS. PMDD is to PMS what a migrane headache is to a regular one....
It makes me insane, plus I hate all that gosh darn bloody mess, and pads and tampons are expensive, plus the bleeding ruins my underwear, and clothes, not to mention, bedding, and it can be embarrassing to start bleeding when having sex. I think Mother nature totally erred in the monthly period catergory. Bad idea. Good Luck :)

the closest thing would be to go on the depo-provera shot...but even then some women experience light bleeding every few months.
the next best option is hysterectomy, but it's really not a great idea as it basically throws you into premature menopause (yes, hot flashes, mood swings, bone loss..the whole lot) plus the fact that you won't be able to have children.
I think you're probably just going to have to suffer through it like the rest of us. terrible I know.

there's no good answer for that other than menopause however if you use the depo provera shot it usually stops your period all together with in a couple months like i said usually not in every case . . also if u ever wanted to become pregnant you may have to wait anywhere from 1 month to a yr and 6 months for the depo provera shot to leave your system

Only when you got thru menopause or are pregnant. Pregnant will only stop the blood flow for a little while not permanent like menopause.
