get faster internet and dont use a wireles router (direct connect)

Most home DSLs are similar in speed - downloads will vary from how far away you are from the switching office. If your DSL is dynamic (IP address is assigned by DHCP) speed is slower than a static IP, but is easier to be hacked. I use DHCP DSL because it's more secure.

If you want next-to-instant access, go cable-modem.

With broadband, [any kind] make certain you use a firewall that makes your PC's IP address (your computer) invisible to hackers. You can either use software -- Kerio, Tiny, ZoneAlarm, etc. -- or hardware - a router. As Brian (above me) noted, wireless routers - all of em - degrade speed.

You Computer will only go as fast as the speed you get from your ISP...Contact your ISP and ask them if they can change your plan to a faster speed...Good Luck
