I cant get my sound to work. Drivers are installed, Device working properly, I have tried everything and Im wondering if my onboard sound has to be hooked up to something inside the pc or if the onboard sound should just work out of the box? And also why isnt it working in general? If it helps this is a new pc just built with onboard sound.

Couple of questions for you:

1) What is the motherboard brand & model number?
2) Do you have onboard sound, a sound card, or both?

Check to make sure the sound is not muted in one of the applications on your computer, such as:
a. Windows Media Player
b. Volume Control icon located by the system clock
c. Some keyboards are configurable with sound controls
d. Check "Sound and Audio Devices" property settings:
> Go to "Start" Menu
> Go to "Control Panel"
> Click "Sound and Audio Devices" icon
> Click "Volume" Tab
> Make sure there is not a check mark in the "Mute" box
> Click "Advanced" and make sure nothing is "muted"
> Click "Audio" Tab
> Is the "Sound Playback" set to the correct Default device?

You may also want to double check your devices drivers, to make sure they are compatible with your operating system.
You may enev want to try reinstalling the drivers just to on the safe sife.

By default onboard sound cards are switched on to work. If you tried installing a separate sound card this can mess up things. If you are sure that the drivers are fine and the speakers are working great and plugged in properly... then you can double check in the bios that the onboard sound is enabled

Are you pluging in your listening device into the motherboard itself or into a jack on the case? It's possible that the jack on the case may not have the jumper connected. I never bothered to connect the one on my old pc.

i anticipate out of your question that at it slow interior the previous the sound on your computing device worked - and now it does not. if that's the case - I furnish this recommendation. at the start verify that your sound gadget - sound card audio gadget are on. in the event that they do no longer look to be giving sound - change your device off. Then change it on. in case you are not getting the 'homestead windows' subject at initiate press the flexibility button on your computing device till the device switches off. Then restart the device. pick 'initiate homestead windows frequently' from the menu that's liable to seem. with a bit of luck you ought to hearken to the 'homestead windows' subject this time once you initiate off. in case you do no longer - repeat the technique back - and back - till you hear the homestead windows subject. My checklist became 5 restarts. you at present have sound on your computing device. as quickly as you have that pass on your administration panel and seek for 'ability recommendations' pick 'What ultimate the lid does' and alter that to 'Hibernate'. on the tip of each and every consultation common close the lid and your device will pass into hibernation - meaning that once you come to initiate it up back - this is going to initiate from the place it left off. Your sound will artwork. There are problems with this technique. i discover myself having to manually verify for updates interior the antivirus; spyware and homestead windows factors. I merely verify the courses for updates. If there are updates that require the device to be be restarted - be arranged to pass for the period of an identical technique as above each and every time. I had your difficulty and became recommended that the complication got here from the courses that began up at 'initiate' did no longer continuously achieve this interior an identical order - and at cases there ought to be conflicts. the above technique works for me - i desire it facilitates you.
