If you guys go out people might question him for going with someone less popular (which usually happens) or you can get in good with the popular people and be popular too. But does that really matter? Don't be afraid to speak just words, let it flow, feel free, just talk to him. Talk about whatever, strike a conversation, get to know him.

1st step - Get noticed!
Is he famous for his brains (i don't know if that can happen)? Or his looks? Sports maybe? Get to know his "thing", and get interested in it. Excell in whatever he does so that he could notice you. But don't get too caught up in copying his every talent, though. A lot of "you" should also show. Hook up with his activities and give your best, but do it YOUR way.
2nd step - he notices you now, talk to him!
Make conversation with him, like "Hey, did you hear about
Note: if he acts like a jerk, and he's not ur type, don't say anything mean like "you're a jerk! you're not my type!". just end the conversation with "gotta go, my BOYFRIEND and I have a date."

Talk to the guy first if he is a jerk off then move on to liking someone else but if he is cool then you probably could be friends and start a very cool relationship. But just relax and talk to him like you would do your other friends make yourself noticeable to him

well if your in his click then you wont have a problem getting to know him. If everybody likes him, maybe you should get his email addy and try to be email buddies. Get to know him there and see if he's a jerk...if your not the shu type...go up to him and introduce yourself...Goodluck
