The reason im so scared of them is when i was 6 me and my friend was playing hide and seek, so i decided to hide under the house where the water hose was and i got trapped in a huge web and my mom said there was spiders crawling all over me, and i was screaming and crying. Ive been terrifed ever since.

Dear Lovepink24,
I was also afraid of spiders at one point in time, and sometimes when they run across my belly at night I get a little freaked out--but mostly startled. It's funny that you ask this question because one of the ways I dealt with this fear was to learn more about them. I even bought a book about spiders called "Spiders of the North Woods" (since I'm from Minnesota), and started reading about them. And when I had done reading (I actually learned some things), I decided to take it a step further and write about them; I created a webpage called "How to Get Rid of Spiders," since I wasn't terrible afraid of them any more (they're actually quite interesting creatures), but I wasn't exactly a fan of being woken up at 2 AM by a wolf spider on my nose.
I guess my point is this: since learning more about the spiders in my area (and there aren't a lot of dangerous spiders in the world, despite what the movie "Arachnophobia" implies) I've grown less afraid of them an more interested in them. Interested enough to save my girlfriend from the occasional spider in the bathtub, and interested enough to teach other people about spiders.

Yes, I also have a phobia of spiders, but not as bad as I used to. The first thing that can help is figuring out just exactly why you fear them so much. For me, it was because during the one year I lived with my dad, my bedroom had a spider problem. I was very young and was having adjustment issues, and I think that in my psyche I started to associate spiders with the trauma I faced as a child. Once I figured that out, I started to be able to get rid of my fear.
Another thing that helps is to learn as much as you can about spiders. We generally fear things that we don't understand, so information is a good remedy for fear. I found out that a lot of species of spiders are actually very interesting, and the knowledge I've gained has helped me a lot. I still can't stand to have a spider touch me or come too close to me, but if I know it's not going to touch me, I'm not bothered by it. Maybe these things will work for you too. Good luck.

I'm terrifird of them, and I wish I knew how to help. I once jumped from a moving car because there was a spider in it, so I completely understand how you feel. Show your husband the responses you get to your question. Maybe then he'll understand that arachnophobia is a very real thing, and not to be taken lightly. Good luck to you.

Yeow!! I'm just afraid of cockroaches and centipedes. Sorry, not so much about spiders. But I found that if I take a deep breath and think "I'm not going to let that dummy tease me again" (my husband also makes fun of me). I'll then imagine that it's smaller and grab a bottle of rubbing alcohol and give that bugger one good squirt and wak it until the sun don't shine or it stops moving. The alcohol robs most insects the ability to breath so it stuns them where you can easily get them with a fly swatter or something like that. (>.<)

I have one right now that has a web right above my sliding glass door, awhile ago I went outside to smoke a cig and didn't see it. I walked right into the web and the spider fell into my hair....I'm not spider-phobic, but THAT did me in....AAARRGG. I just saw him again building in the same place, so I put a sticky note on the door saying "warning, attack spider" so later my hubby won't do the same thing.

I'm afraid of spiders too. I detest them. I don't care what kind they are. There's no way to get over it. Just get out the can of bug spray for spiders and kept spraying until they drown. Ugh....creepy things.....

They ARE creepy. I hate them too and they're all over the house when it starts to get cold outside. We live in a forest and they try to come in for the warmth. The big, hairy ones. UGH! I don't think there's much you can do to overcome it. Why bother?
