When we first went wireless only, we actually ended up paying more monthly since we used more minutes and went over. That sucked. If your going to go wireless only, make sure you bump up your minutes a notch.

To bump up our minutes to the next level it cost us only ten dollars more a month, which was cheaper than paying for the landline.

Disadvantages are
won't be able to use cheapest internet such as Dialup or DSL, instead will have to pay for more expensive Cable or Satelite internet.

For some services for the Satelite TV services you need a landline.

Also I think some alaram systems need a landline.

Advantages
Your other in your life won't touch your messages and not give them to you.

Only one voicemail to keep track of.

I had a wireless phone as my primary phone. But there are many disadvantages like loss of signal at a time when you really depends on your phone, low signal strength in many buildings, and of course the battery dying. But if you can manage to avoid that there are advantages. You can take your cell phone anywhere you go, and a landline phone- not so portable.
