Seems like whenever I try to bring up a serious topic, to spark an actual debate, people shoot me down. To quote a popular saying in my area, "Shot down quicker than a scud over Tel Aviv." Is it that people don't see what I'm aiming at?

I'm talking about when people shoot down my idea for a serious thought.

Some things I don't mind giving serious thought to, but then again, I have a sense of humour and love to use it on these boards. Some people come to these boards to troll because they don't have jobs and therefore, have nothing to do but troll Internet boards all day ... and drink coffee. Or they are like me, who is in major pain right now from my arthritic cervical and thoracic spine, along with nerve pain running up and down my arms ... it hurts like a "bastard", and I am finding that having an erratic sense of humour helps. Some people have indicated on other sites that they've enjoyed my posts because I don't take people too seriously, though I will throw a pile of bricks at some people once in awhile ... I think there are such a wide variety of topics, I find it interesting to learn how people around the world are actually thinking of real life world events.

I don't mean to "nit pick"... but what's the difference between being "shot down" and "loosing a debate"...

I mean isn't the point of a debate to "shoot the other team down" in a sense?

I try not to just yell obscenities at people (some do, Lord knows)... but to actually have factual basis, if it can be backed up, for what I am saying...

what is wrong with arguing... or would u have all the people regimented and made to think alike? Difference of opinion is good as long as you are actually useing your mind. Does not matter if it gets a bit volcanic at times... but hey these are only words... better take it out verbally than kill someone in the square. I think it helps use up some aggression.

Hezbollah launched a new kind of rocket Friday that made the deepest strike into Israel yet,

Hezbollah's launching of the new weapon unnerved Israelis, 500,000 of whom are already living in northern shelters because of rocket bombardments. The rocket firing was also likely to escalate a conflict now in its 18th day,

With Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice heading back to the Middle East this weekend to make a second attempt to resolve the crisis

Eight Israelis died fighting for control of Bint Jbail on Wednesday, the highest toll of the campaign.
Bint Jbail had the largest Shiite community along the border; it was known as the ''capital of the resistance'' during Israel's 1982-2000 occupation because of its vehement support for the Shiite Hezbollah

On the Israeli side, 33 soldiers have died in fighting, and Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel have killed 19 civilians, the Israeli army said.Hezbollah said its guerrillas attacked Israeli troops on a ridge overlooking Bint Jbail and in Maroun al-Ras, a nearby villages that Israeli troops overran last weekend. The guerrillas said five Israeli soldiers were wounded

The guerrillas said they used the Khaibar-1 — named after the site of a historic battle between Islam's Prophet Muhammad and Jewish tribes in the Arabian peninsula — to strike the Israeli town of Afula.
''With this, the Islamic Resistance begins a new stage of fighting, challenge and confrontation with a strong determination and full belief in God's victory,'' Hezbollah said in a statement

It's hard to get a cynical-free answer in the Politics section. Unfortunately, I think people do come here to argue. I wish you good luck in your answer seeking.
