There are no pat answers to this question
There are almost as many reasons as there are people who do this
Some do drugs as a way to "fit in" with a social group or mind set
Some because they are searching for ways to bring some relief to their boring or seemingly meaninngless lives
Some do this in protest of what they see as an authentarian social structure that they are opposed to
Yet others do this as an "exploration" process ---to experience something beyond what is considered exceptable
And the list goes on and on and on
The people that choose this road are not likely to give a damn about anything that they've been told about anything--they do not usually fall into the class of humans that are that trusting of things that are told to them to begin with---and when faced with the facts of the effects of use---they are usually the people that believe that they are above ever being the ones that will be caught in this web---they believe that they can control the situation and that what has happened to others will never ever happen to them because they are much better than that -----

I guess that makes me an idiot, I take perscription drugs because I am terminally ill and I would be in horrific pain if I did not take them. I do not take as much as they give me usually because I need to function but any drugs I use, I think are justified. I am dying, so if you still think I am an idiot, then you should meet me when I have not had the morphine and valium! Then you could meet a raving idiot. They keep me from pain that would be unbearable. Does that work for you?
Edit to add: When you have cancer in your spine and blood, and the only thing that can be done medically is to make the patient as comfortable as possible. I say, if medically perscribed, and taken as required, they are not wrong. It is not an escape, it's because I am NOT ready for euthanasia? So let me get this straight... Writhing in pain? Is that now to be the “quality of my life”??? I get THAT because you would deny me the only comfort available? Believe me, it was never MY idea to take the drugs, but they say, I am untreatable, terminal, that usually means you are in the last stages. Duh! What bleeping difference does it make if I go out with a smile on my face, or my family remembers me in a bed shrieking in pain drenched in sweat, and raving out of my mind in pain. Which would YOU rather live with? Forgive the heck out of me!
Thank U for your support for the terminally ill who are in horrific pain, I hope you never have to watch someone you love or ever have to experience something like this yourself. The milk of human kindness has sure soured in this place.

I think most people who start drugs are either doing it because of peer pressure, or because they think it'd be better than their own reality. Everyone knows drugs are not good for them. Well most people do. Some people like to say that weed is not unhealthy, but anytime you inhale smoke into your lungs you're causing problems. Anyway, people get sucked in. It gives them a temporary feeling of goodness so they keep doing it. I've only smoked weed and I did it because of peer pressure and I did it for awhile until I realized it was stupid. There will always be people addicted to things in this world.

I think people turn to drugs because they are horribly unhappy and it is the only way for them to forget something that happened to them or didnt happen as such to dull the aching pain.
I personally do not take drugs but I have known people who have turned to them because of depression and the fact is you may not like it but u need to support them and help them come off it!
Now having a smoke is a different matter but again I personally do not . . .

The people I know who took drugs did it because they were hurting and wanted to take away the pain. I think this is why people drink or engage in risky sexual behavior as well. People want to feel like they belong and are okay. Sometimes it helps to not feel at all. Nobody makes a conscientious choice to become addicted, lose their jobs, family and/or life.

It's a disease, an addiction! Your self-esteem is so low that you become self-destructive. Same for alcoolics. Your brain only feels happy when you are on the drugs and doesnt deliver serotonin (happy hormone) when you are not on the drugs. Combination of behavioural problems and affecting your hormones.
It has nothing to do with faith.

You didn't specify what kind of drugs people are taking. There are illegal drugs which 99.99% of people do it due to peer pressure and then get hooked on it.Just like alcohol and cigarettes. But then there are people who are on medication that is prescribed by their Doctor. People have to take these drugs, sometimes for the rest of there life.

People take drugs because it is a way to escape the utter horror of their circumstances. They can still be helped, but we all have to put in a hand to make it work...

I used to do some pretty scary drugs. I was stupid and believed I was to good to get hooked!
Drugs do not discriminate! White, black, poor, rich, ugly, pretty....
They are equal opportunity!!!!
I nearly died for my addiction. I lost alot of money and material possessions and nearly my soul. I can replace material possessions. I finally got my soul back. I never lost it it was undercover!!
Let me tell you drugs turn you into the biggest piece of sh!t on the face of the earth!
Do not ever go there OK??

i know some kids do it because their friends do it and they just want to try it. somehow like the way it makes them feel and they want to do it again. but I'm not saying that I'm for it, my brother died 2 yrs ago from accidental drug overdose. he was 23 yrs old.so i think people should look into the long term affects of drugs before doing them.
