I had my 70' beetle purring just weeks ago, but then i went and messed with the 2 mixture screws. It still runs, it just won't idle. does anyone know how to fix that? The number or turns in out ot on either adjustment screw?
thanks.

The larger of the two is the idle air ,about 1 3/4 - 2 1/4 should be close. The smaller is the fuel mixture and about 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 should be close. there are exceptions as to how worn the carb is.
Make sure the idle cutoff valve is plugged in and operating as that would keep it from idling properly and the electrical main jet is also plugged in or modified to manual.

no longer optimistic once you've a carb or gas-injected engine? First call your mechanics and tell them the placement. in the different case locate a VW mechanic who knows what they're doing. The timing, the spark and the distributor ought to all be checked. those are uncomplicated to fix, so attempt to study as a lot as you could so that you will be properly-suggested, too.

Look at my profile by clicking on the highlighted name below my picture icon, and at one of the very first answers I ever gave for tuning the carb on a weedwacker. Although for a car, the theory is exactly the same. It's long, but it's pretty well explained and earned a best answer. I hope this helps.

open up the screws a lil (ones for high and one low) and it should allow more gas to pass though
unless u think its getting to much then screw them in a lil

u prolly can find a friend who can do it and wont charge u
(i am guessing u have nvr done this sense your asking but i maybe wrong)
