I would like to be able to take my laptop into other rooms of my house or even outside. Do I have any other options?

I am not 100% sure if I have a DSL modem, but I would think I did because upon installing my DSL service, I didn't request anything to do with wireless service including a wireless router. Sorry. Don't know anything about computer hardware or technical lingo. : )

Do you have a wireless router or DSL modem?

You need to have a wireless access point installed and setup properly before your laptop can see it. Please be more descriptive on your problem.

________
Update:

Your question states that you can't access your wireless connection. However from your additional details, it appears that you never had a wireless connection.

The standard service over DSL does not come with a wireless option. Your laptop might have it built in, but your high-speed DSL does not. Go to BestBuy or CompUSA and one of the retail guys can explain it to you. You need to purchase a wireless router and if your laptop doesn't have it built-in, you'll also need a wireless device for your laptop. It's not as expensive as it sounds. For just your laptop, you're still looking at less than $80 if you find a good deal.

The following sites might help you after you get the equipment:

The manual for your router will also help.

If u have just ordered the DSL then they would have installed a simple DSL modem. TO get wireless...u need a wireless router...here are some options... Linksys, D-link, Belkin, US Robotics, Netgear...etc.
