I received a red light violation citation in San Francisco, CA detected by a photo camera, although I honestly do not recall running any red lights. In fact, I've been driving in San Francisco for 10 years and never received a ticket before. The ticket says the yellow was on for 3.1 sec prior to red, and red was on for 0.3 sec when I entered the intersection. Can I dispute such sitation?

I remember reading some articles about people who beat photo-radar tickets. It seems the best defenses were those that challenged the manufacturer of the ticket machines - if they contracted with the city and were paid on a per-ticket basis (instead of a flat monthly rate), then that would reason to dismiss the ticket.

A machine-based traffic enforcement system could not be used on a commission-basis between the city and mfr.

But I don't know how San Francisco manages their photo-radar units. If they bought them outright, you will have a hard time winning that case.

The other strategy is to challenge the technical capability of the machine. What is its calibration schedule, and what does the data look like? If the radar, timing and connections with the traffic light are suspect, I think you could win.

Those are my thoughts. I think you need to hire a lawyer who has defended and won these cases before.

Good luck, and tell us what you do and if you win or lose.

how long ago? If it was more than a couple of days, they probably won't ticket you. If they do ask for the camera recording to be shown to the judge and explain that you did stop. Good Luck. (don't know how much but if they ticket you and you plead no contest or go before the judge it will probably at least be cut in half. Hopefully!!

I've heard you can. There's a website that offers assistance need to do a search I can remember the link. I did see something about fighting camera tickets.

If you go to court one thing they suggested was ask to cross examine your acuser. I understand the camera tickets have a real problem getting convictions because there is no witness to the alleged crime. And you cannot cross examine a camera.

all tickets are diputable. I would definatly want to see the tape. Exlain about never having a ticket and try to remember what you were thinking the day that happened if you recognize the intersection. Mercy goes along way with honesty.

Good luck

If the photograph clearly shows your liscense plate number the chances are you don't have a chance in disputing it. Usually, the camera is as trustworthy as a police officer seeing it himself.

I wouldn't try it without seeing an attorney first. It is hard to dispute photographic evidence, if they can produce it.

Tell them that someone else was driving your car that day
