Practical constraints generally relate to funding. If your district doesn't have enough funding (or chooses to direct it toward other programs), your classroom may not have access to a computer(s), a television/VCR/DVD player, or a Smart Board (for PowerPoint or full-view navigation of the Internet). If your classroom does have a computer, it might not be linked to the Internet or it might be a slow connection speed. Some schools depend on what are called COWs (Computers on Wheels), and these mobile units must be reserved in advance for use by the whole school.

Apart from technology, your classroom might not have enough filing cabinets, storage for your teaching materials, or an adequate amount of supplies for all students. In some schools, there aren't enough textbooks for every student, and each class shares the same set; thus, no student can take a book home or use it outside of class time.

Many first-year teachers must "float" instead of teaching in their own classroom. Floating means that the teacher uses other teachers' rooms during their planning periods. It also means that you won't have any private space or materials in any classroom; instead, all of your supplies, papers, books, and related materials are on a cart that you push around from room to room throughout the day.

During times of building construction, you might have to teach in a mobile unit or a trailer. These classrooms are temporary; thus, they are poorly ventilated, heated, and cooled, and the walls are often so thin that students will kick holes in them. Plus, since it's a temporary room (which may last as long as two years), students have less respect for it and deface the walls.

If these constraints don't answer your question, post another question. :)

Watch your mouth at all times, watch your hands at all times, and don't count on having any supplies unless you buy them yourself.
