It is not possible to protect ideas but rather the representation of that idea.
It sounds like you're wanting to look into copyrights. Check out the US Copyright Office. I posted some links below that should help you further.

Unfortunatly, I don't think you can patent an idea for a TV show. You can however draw up storyboards, and write up some scripts and submit them to producers. Just in case I am wrong though, inventershelp.com would be one of many places you can try to pass it through for free.

actually, i think you might be looking to copyright your idea.. First off, write your idea on paper.. Secondly, on each page, at the bottom write your name and the date..
Thirdly, for the final step you can send your paperwork to be officially copyrighted through a copyright agency, but its not necessary as long as you have your name and date written on the papers..If you are going to submit your idea to a television studio, it might be best if you talk to a lawyer or someone who specializes in that type of area just to make sure your bases are covered. I wish you luck, we need better tv shows!
