my sis in law smoked with all four of her kids, two were quite small 5lb 8 oz and 6 lb 4 oz but generally healthy although one got pneumonia as a baby and one has to get tubes in the ears now. one a big baby at 7 lb 13 oz but he had respiratory problems very young and was on breathing treatments and the other she cut down to like one pack a week instead of one a day and he has been the healthiest and was born 8 lb 4 oz.

Smoking is nasty, during pregnancy and any other time. Yes, it can harm the baby now, but will after birth too if your friend continues to smoke. That can lead to asthma and sinus trouble, plus others. Just not a good thing all around.

UM, YEAH-smoking during pregnancy can cause a number of problems to the baby, including low birth weight, birth defects, and death, just to name a few! What the hell is your friend thinking?! She's making a very selfish decision that's gonna effect her child for the rest of his life, and that's not fair. There is a chance that the kid will turn out to be just fine, but why risk it? Your friend needs help, and I highly reccommend that she seek out some counseling before it's too late.

Yes!
The main thing is that smoking deprives the baby of oxygen. It's directly linked to low birth weight, a higher chance of preterm labor, and there are all sorts of things like asthma and deformities that are linked to smoking.
Try this website: It has facts about smoking during pregnancy, as well as tips to help quit.

More than likely, there is a slight chance that it wont but odds are against it. My mom smokes alot and she did when she was pregnent and my sister turned out to be 5 1.5 weeks premature. She had speacial diapers and wore my baby dolls clothes.

I feel sorry for this baby. Obviously your friend don't love herself enough to be carrying a baby she don't love. She needs to think of her baby and start showing her baby love from the womb. "There's life before there's birth" tell her to think about it.

Yes. It can cause severe birth affects, like brain damage and other horrible things. Take her cigarettes and throw them away. Now.
