Young writers have a lot of chances, and a lot of potential. Join a writing club, as there is great feedback that can be given to you then. Try some short stories and submit them to literary magazines, The Writer's Market is a good resource. The main bit of advice is do a lot of editing. Nothing turns a publisher off a manuscript faster than grammar-spelling-typos. Once you've published several short-stories (paid) you qualify for guild membership and agents will consider you. Good luck!

As a published author let me give you some advice. Go out today and buy Writers Market 2007. It is published in August and it lists current contact info for all genres of writing. Second write and then write then cut until it hurts. Third learn the ropes if you do not know how to approach editors and submit your work in the proper format you will be wasting your time. Fourth if you are serious don't give up. I sold the first piece I ever submitted but that was after doing my homework and knowing how to format and where I should send the manuscript. A good writer reads constantly so make sure that a lot of your reading is about the nuts and bolts of the craft. Good Luck!

Yes, young writers have a chance. Gordon Korman published his first book and 13.
Probably the first thing is to write. If you're in high school or college, find out if there is a teacher who can help you and or a local press. Try the yellow pages, if teachers are a no go. Try your local newspaper, they might even help you along as it makes a great underdog story on its own.
Write about what you know. Experiences in your life, try to identify characteristics in those around you that you could use in characters in the book.
good luck

You have a chance as much as anyone else. Rest easy. Write the book first and then worry about everything else later. First, you need the basics: pen, pencil, notebook, or laptop. Next, you need to decide what story you want to write about, if you haven't already. Next, write the book. Then, submit the finished product to an agent, an agent will submit it to a publisher, and after some considerable time, wha-la! You do have a chance.

Work on getting published. Enter contests. Submit stories to magazines. That way you'll start to have connections for when you're ready to look for a publisher for your book...And yes, the best writers start young. Good luck!

I am 'no' author, but i would suggest to you that you really take a look at your work, before thinking about submitting anything.
If I had such a talent, I think that I would prob. max myself out with my own questions/answers before approaching anyone...ie: do a work load 'for yourself'...such as finding something that interests you....pour your heart into it...and ask/answer questions that you would want to see written on paper....find more interests...do the same...over and over...You may find that as time goes on, you may actually be interested in a field such as 'Journalism'...or something similar...writing a book is a fabulous interest to have, but if you look at other 'routes' to writing a book, you may find that you have found other interests along the way that have helped you get to that point in your life....I wish you the best of luck!
Keep reading, writting and creating....from the heart...
