The Difficulty in Kicking the Habit
Smokers may have started smoking because their friends did or because it seemed cool. But they keep on smoking because they became addicted to nicotine, one of the chemicals in cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Nicotine is both a stimulant and a depressant. That means nicotine increases the heart rate at first and makes people feel more alert (like caffeine, another stimulant). Then it causes depression and fatigue. The depression and fatigue — and the drug withdrawal from nicotine — make people crave another cigarette to perk up again. According to many experts, the nicotine in tobacco is as addictive as cocaine or heroin.
But don't be discouraged; millions of Americans have permanently quit smoking. These strategies can help you quit, too:

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

here's what you do.
1. Tell every single person that you are going to quit and make sure everyone you know, knows your intentions. This will put added pressure on you to not disapoint them.
2. Have your last cig.
3. upon smoking it, take the rest of your cigs and break each one. Get rid of your lighters and matches, and throw out the cigarrete lighter in your car.
4. Every time you have an urge, do 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups. Not only will this make you not want a cig because of the little workout, but you can get in better shape and quit smoking. Plus this can help prevent post-quitting weight gain.
5. Be proud of your achievements daily and also try meditation!
Best of luck

The only time I've seen people quit is when they really wanted to or had a reason for quitting more important than their self. I had a friend that smoked over a pack a day and quit when she got pregnant. If she hadn't gotten pregant she never would have quit.

Get sick with something that makes you not want to smoke (sinisitus worked for me) and consider that to be the begining of cold turkey. That was the only way I could quit after 11 years.

Honestly?
Treat you like a herion addict and strap yourself to a chair and lock you in a room.. I've been trying to quit for the past year.. been smoking for 10 years... The gum doesn't work.. the sure method that I hear is completely no nictone in your system, like cold turkey.. but its also will power and who you hang with too...
Good luck to you and remember nicotine stays in the system for 24hrs and that its all a mental addiction

Cold turkey. You need to pick a day that you are going to do it and just do it. That's what I did. I tried the gum for a day and it sucked butt. Good luck.

Start loving yourself and start seeing you body as your temporary residence, you have taken to enjoy this world around, so you get to stay here as long as you take good care of your residence as the landlord would evicted you once he sees you mistreating its property continously.
