Look at the facts. Honda Gold Wing 1830 cc, 118 H.P., 120 lbs. ft tq., Standard equipment reverse, hot/cold air vents, Voice actuated intercoms, heated seat , heated grips, electronic cruiise, premium sound system, struts on bags, Navigation , ABS or non ABS, linked brake system. 32,000 miles between valve adjustments, shaft drive with service intervals around 30,000 miles. (Just open the drain plug, drain, and fill.) Digital display. There is more. A wing should give you 300,000 miles or more with out a rebuild. Average service cost 10,000 miles around 300.00. Plus tires. H.D, nice, but a 1450 , 88 inch bone stock is 60 h.p.. a 95 inch built right will give you about 75 h.p. Cruise, am fm std. service in 10,000 around $1100,(plus tires) with no unexpected problems. A likelyTranny rebuild 50-60,000 miles. Should go 100,000 before overhaul, with factory rec. service intervals. A Gold wing, ABS, with the comfort pkg. enhanced stereo pkg., and Navigation can be bought for 22,000. About 2200 less for non abs, non Navigation. A H.D. Ultra is around 22000, beforeyou drop $4,000 into the motor. The last GL1800 I sold was to a hard core H.D. rider. (And an employee of the H.D. factory.) I could not get the grin off his face after the test ride. By the way I sell both H.D. and Honda. Oh yeah, the Gold Wing is built only in Marysville OHIO, U.S.A., since 1984. Over 80% American content. More than H.D. Really I like them both, and ride them both. But my hard earned dollars will go a lot further on a Wing. Plus, there is no touring bike made that will run as fast, handles as good, or last as long, nearly maintenance free as a GL 1800. Ridem both and go with your own feelings. You did not mention if you are a two up rider or solo most of the time. If two up, take your passenger for a ride on both. Seats up and good luck..

The goldwing is the ultimate long range touring bike, with the BMW K1200 LT a close 2nd. Most Harley folks tell me the Road King is a good bike as well. If you're buying need to really think about how you will be using the bike.

If you intend to ride coast to coast and long trips you'll love the Honda.

I bought a touring bike, Kawasaki Voyager VII, nothing wrong with it but I mainly use it to commute and short trips. I bought another lighter bike to use fo communting and the lighter weight and quicker handling make it much more pleasant to ride in town and communter traffic.

The Gold Wing has unbelievable power and handling. The flat, liquid coold engine is smooth and reliable. Single-sided swingarm on the GL 1800 makes tire repair a snap.

Harley's suck. Get a Honda. Harleys always break down, hondas are die-hard. Oh yeh,.... since you are riding a Honda though, expect those harley idiots to not wave to you. They are too "tough" to wave. fa gs
