My friend is out of shape, smokes a pack and half a day, played 1 year of waterpolo in high school, and now is 24. He swims in a pool probably 4-5 times a year.
Do you think he can tread water for an hour??

His lips must stay above water and he must stay stationary the entire time. He can not just float.

That depends on your definition of treading water. If he has to be straight up and down, constantly moving his arms and legs, it sounds like a good bet. If he can lay back a little it becomes a much more risky bet.

Thank you to all you who talked my friend in to giving me the easiest money ever... I just treaded for an hour and picked up easy money!
And whoever responded to say they swim 5 miles a day and can't do this, totally sucks.... i'm fat, out of shape, and I smoke, and i did it with EASE....
I guess technically i'm now a professional swimmer who makes $100/hour... how much you get paid for swimming 4-5 miles a day?

Great bet ... for him. If he played water polo for a year, he knows how to tread water for a LONG time. It also means that he is very competitive so ... he will do what it takes to win, and he will remember how to do it.

I would make that bet because that fat bastard can not tread water for 1 hour. This will be the easiest bet that you will ever win.

no way, I'm in pretty good shape and for my scuba diving test, i had to float on top of water with my head above it for about 15-20 minutes and that is hard enough.

He could lay on the water on his back and just move about arms and legs slowly leting the bouyancy do all the work and just moving to not being 'stationary'.
