My daughter is about to officially be 8 months in 4 days, and I am concern that her only solid she takes is guacamole. She hates all gerbers food, and the little crackers too for the teething. The daycare lady said to just keep trying, but I do, with no success. It's either her baba, or guac. Plus, she like it with GARLIC in it? New biological dad here, wife away, confused dude...please help!

Keep trying - it can take up to 20 times before a baby "likes" a food. Try giving her a bite of guac and then a bite of the new food that you are introducing. Offer her all kinds of foods - fruits, veggies, maybe even some yogurt (Yo Baby yogurt is good yogurt for infants). She will get the hang of it - she probably likes the guac because it is smooth and easy to eat.

Please ignore the people who are insulting you because your daughters mother is away. Apparently they do not realize that the baby's mother is overseas fighting in a war. Maybe some of the critical should be smart enough to check out some of your other questions and they would learn to not make insulting comments to someone who is honestly asking for help. If your baby likes the guac, just try adding in small amounts of other foods; mashed carrots or bananas may work. Has the baby's doctor talked to you about her diet? If her checkups are going well, and the doctor is not overly concerned, don't get too worried over it, many children are picky about food. If she is drinking a good quality formula, and is gaining weight and is acting happy and healthy that is the best way to tell if she is doing fine or not. Some young children will only eat one or two foods for months on end. I know many young children that will only eat bananas, or peas or crackers or hot dogs. If the doctor is concerned about it, he can give you some suggestions. Don't even bother with the so called baby foods, a lot of them are so overprocessed they are not healthy, and they are quite tasteless, you would have to load them with garlic so your daughter would even go near them. Just think about all the generations that have gone before us; my parents lived to be in their 80's, and my grandparents and greatgrandparents lived into the upper 80's and 90's and they didn't eat a very varied diet and certainly not any canned or jarred anything. If your little girl is acting listless or sick, then there is a problem. If she is eating garlic at such a young age, she will not have to worry about high blood pressure when she is older...or vampires either (just kidding...I just couldn't resisit...figured you could use a smile!!!!) So don't stress out, try to add in some new foods, check with the doctor...and relax and hug that little cutie. God bless you all and have a good night!!!!

If she won't eat the commercial baby foods, fix them yourself. Throw some cooked carrots into a blender, same for peas, etc. You can do it with meats too...just add a little juice or some of her formula to it to make it smooth. Fruits are easy to put into the blender and kids usually LOVE them because they're so sweet.

Talk to her doc about what she should be eating. I can't remember at what age we went with the Cheerios. Usually a big hit with the little ones, but I'm not sure if she's too young for them yet. I know I was worried about the choking because they melt in the mouth when they're in there a long time so I broke them in half. Many people laughed at me, but I felt better being safe than sorry!

Your daughter is one after my heart! Guacamole! (just make sure when you try new foods that you don't do a lot of them at once, just in case there is an allergy to it. Try one wait a day or so before introducing another one).

Good luck! Sounds like you're a great dad!

My baby would take baby food at first but after just a few weeks she totally refused. I FREAKED! I absolutely cannot stand it when ANYONE - baby or adult - doesn't eat. It really concerns me. So to get SOME food into her I would make her smoothies. I would use milk and add in some baby food - the fruit and yogurt variety - and shake it up good in her bottle (or sippy). She LOVED them. She's 27 mos now and still gets one in the morning. Now I make them w/ veggie juice, yogurt, flax seed oil and prunes (really helps w/ those poo's!)

My doc and other people would always tell me, "When she's hungry, she'll eat". Well, that's all well and good but they weren't the ones watching her go almost all day w/o food! The smoothies helped her to stay at the top half of the charts, kept her growing and kept this mama sane!

She's a really good eater now!

Try not to panic. Some babies just don't take to baby food from a jar. Although my daughter eats it, by son had to have only regular food pureed in a baby blender (veal, chicken, vegetables, etc.). Try this and see if you can get her to diversify her diet a bit, so that she is getting enough nutrients. make sure that the doctor knows about the difficulties she is having so he can prescribe a vitamin. Just keep trying different foods until you find a variety that she likes. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about it. If she will not eat Gerber by now she never will. My son would but my daughter never would. The doctor told me this was nothing to worry about. And try to give her different foods. I went with mashed potatoes, mashed yams, and even put veggies in the blender and give them to her. You can add garlic to all of these. LOL You can puree anything in the blender just watch that it is all smooth and not too sugary. Good luck

Just keep trying. Also remember that think in a weeks span of time, not a day. If you can get all the food groups in after a seven day period, this is o.k. They will get the nutrition they need, I promise. For teething I used frozen slices of apple. I was afraid he would choke, but he didn't, because it gets really soggy, and hard chunks don't break off. Also, try soup- my kid really liked that, when I couldn't get him to eat baby food.

Tough one.......honestly, try making her food at home. I did that from the start with my seven month old, and she eats everything. Literally. The foods are different. Here and there she gets jarred food (when we are out for signifigant periods of time) and she doesn't like it. It does taste different. I am going to guess she likes rich foods. Try zucchini, eggplant, summer squash, home made chicken, rice and beans..........the more you start them with, the more they will eat. Just add a bit of garlic to the foods, and she will eat just fine (I cook my daughter's chicken with garlic and a touch of salt. Loves it)
Also, if you haven't yet, try yogurt. I give my daughter six tablespoons of fruit, 3 tbsp. of yogurt, and a few tablespoons of cereal for breakfast, and she loves it! Just keep trying, she will pick it up sooner or later~!

I used to introduce a bit at a time, first I used to mash potato with milk and butter, then progress with a little mashed carrot, and so on till my kids got used to different taste, although my last child would eat anything even garlic, he still loves it even now, it is just trial and error my friend... good luck on a job well done
