My boyfriend's dad, lets call him Steve, thinks that we (my boyfriend and I) should get married even though we're still in college. We've told him before that we are just not ready, but he continues to persistantly badger us about it. It's getting annoying. We don't talk to him often because he lives in a different state and we see him even less. My boyfried and I have talked about marriage and we agree that we want to wait until we are out of college. (We are sophmores now) How do I convince Steve that we are not ready and that it's really none of his business anyway??

I'd just be straight one more time. Hey Steve, I love that you think so much of me that you want me to be a part of your family, but ____ and I would prefer to wait until we're out of school to take such a big step together. Please respect our decision and know that you'll be the first one we tell if, and when, we are ready to get married. You constantly bringing up the issue makes me uncomfortable and I'd rather not talk to you than deal with that. I'd like to be close to you, but I can't if you keep bringing it up.

Then stick to it. He'll get the point, or miss having you around.
