It is understadable that primordially we evolved as separate tribes because contact was either not possible or not even feasible. Now that we can live as a community because of our collective knowledge and technology does it make sense to keep our primordial loyalties as foremost? I am not suggesting that we should eliminate all difference... but only that our particularities are like the dress we wear, while our bodies are the same! I think a collective human consciousness is necessary. Also we need to think in human terms rather than for our narrow tribes, blocking our understanding.
Even when we claim to be humans first, our habits and interactions limit us to our particularities. Most of us die with only this level of consciousness.

Human.
Supporters of Hitler were German patriots. Hirohito sent Japanese patriots to Pearl Harbor. Every country who has ever waged war against another has sacrificed their patriots for their cause. That history, or other countries, deem that cause wrong, does not in any way retroactively change the courageousness of the patriots who fought for it.
The very word patriot conjures all the best of humankind. Courage, integrity, loyalty, the willingness to die for one's beliefs.
When you put the strength of the valiant side of human nature behind a bad idea, horrible things happen. We all need to be human first, set aside beliefs that cause us to kill one another, and try to make a future in which patriots get to build rather than destroy.

I'm human first, my racial identity comes next, finally my nation. I have no religious beliefs, so they don't come in anywhere.
The reason why is, I'm here because I am a human. As a human I believe everyone deserves to be treated in a humane and dignified manner. Next, comes my racial identity, that is a BIG, HUGE part of who I am. I am who I am because of the culture that I grew up in, what my parents and ancestors taught me. Finally, my nation. My nation plays a great part in who I am, I'm very lucky to be an American citizen and I'm very proud of that. It's because I am an American citizen that I can be human first and express my feelings and thoughts about Bush's "war on Iraq" for oil and money.

Human first, first example, i am totally against Bush's war in Iraq and against the arogant foreign policies of the United States. I would not support Bush's policies or his war even if their was another 9/11, I swear this before God almighty. Imperial Bush the unchecked and unconstitutional shame of a president should be impeached and then turned over to the World Court for war crimes. Amen!

If you are smart, you fight for your country when you believe it is right and moral and upstanding. If it is not that way, you still have an obligation to act in a way that is the most moral, humane, etc., that you can manage under the circumstances. Before anyone says this is "liberal whining", keep in mind that in Nazi Germany, it is PRECISELY what we would have expected people to do... some folks were "human first" and paid for it with their lives. And thanks to them, Germany today is something worth being patriotic for.
Our country could use some of those lessons right now.

I am an American first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you find that alarming.???? Perhaps you think I am stupid (IQ !67 if counting, MBA as well as MA)
I identify The being an American because it is the USA's ideology that sets us apart. While the enemy justifies using human shield as a way of doing battle. USA genuinely avoids civilian casualties. Americans (right and left0) have a respect for life) I see the opposition as seeing innocent civilians a merely tools too advance their agenda.
This is one of the myriad of treason why I say I am an American FIRST, before all else!!!!!!!!!!

Human first. If my religion or nation was on the wrong side, I will keep silent and do whatever it takes to make my life and family live normally. Let the government solve their problems, we already have one.

this sounds kinda like the immovable object meets the irresistable force question, or the geometry one where someone goes half the distance one day, half the remaining distance the next day, etc.-will he ever get there?
If your religion is on the wrong side, either you are not at one with god or your religion is false, by definition. being human is a non-entity, define it first. true religions tell you to obey your bosses; if they screw up, that's their problem. the rest of your meandering is just silly and/or bad engrish.

i am a human first and foremost. religion, nationality, or group affiliations are just secondary and i shouldnt feel that these things clash with my humanity. should these violate my sense of humanity in any sense then it is time to question the integrity of my religion, nationality, or group affiliation.
