There is an old saying that goes something like “The birds never sing when a cat is around.” Sometimes being heard is not desirable, especially when there’s someone or something around that would potentially do you harm. Well, us humans have been broadcasting radio waves for over 100 years, meaning that any aliens within 100 light years could have possibly heard us, since radio waves travel at the speed of light (they are light waves). We’ve been ‘singing’ for quite some time now, and some of the aliens might not have noticed, and others might not be hostile, but I wonder if any ‘cats’ might have heard us. Are we sitting on a ticking time bomb? My thought on this subject would be for us to technologically advance as quickly as possible, so that we will be as prepared as possible.

It sounds like you've been reading "Lucifer's Hammer". It's about an advanced alien species that locates other species and destroys them before they can pose a threat.

However, you would have to wonder how any species that has true interstellar travel could view a non-instellar species as a threat. Were we ever concerned that the Hawaiians might launch an attack via canoe on the US? And, if another species does have insterstellar capability this would probably be obvious in ways beyond radio signals. For example, if greater than lightspeed travel is possible then presumably so would greater than lightspeed communication and sensing. A vehicel traveling at greater than lightspeed would probably give some indication that it has interstellar capabilities and this might be of more interest to another interstellar capable species.

Do not fret my friend. Beings that have the capability of space travel don't want anything to do with our planet. They've been here before and passed. Carl Sagan states that there are more planets in the cosmos than grains of sand on earth. Surely there is a buffet of planets at their disposal. The only thing we have to be concerned about is ourselves. There can be no peace on this earth until there is peace between religions. After that, we can begin to repair mother earth. Sorry to report but this will never happen. Not to be a buzz kill but we as a species is bleeding and the rock beneath us is bleeding. Maybe we need a great physician from the skies to patch us up. If this is true, I welcome the traveler, whatever the form he displays. (sorry to get off tract)

they're already here.. and have been for thousands, maybe millions, of years...

though their agenda seems to that of peace and aid to us...

people say they'll finally reveal themselves to everyone in december of 2012 (no, that's not just and x-files thing)

i'd suggest listening to a radio show called 'Coast to Coast AM', and reading Whitley Strieber's news website, 'Unknown Country' if you really want to keep up with this stuff
...
later :)

yeah, maybe you're right. They're probably just waiting for the right moment. i cant see a 'righter' moment than now, but with their highly evolved brains, i bet they can already see whats coming for us in the next 100 years or so.

yes we will run out of time before the aliens arrive
this planet will turn to dust before intelligent travellers from another planet arrive

there is life out there

but the universe is so big, the odds of us meeting them are almost non existent
