I remember when we had a book report due, we actually had to GO physically to the library. If you needed to use the dictionary you had to go get one of those 20 pound books off the Shelf and use it in front of the teacher because it was one of the good hardbound types. OR the old ragedy ones that they had in the class that smelled like formaldehyde. eeeew.

You had to actually call the pizza hut to order a pizza now you can schedule it online. You had to get a TRAVEL agent when NOW you can be your own agent using whichever service you desire. You had to go to movies and wait in line. Now you can buy online, print off page, take to theatre, without waiting a long time.

We can buy things online and not have to drive all over town looking for it.

I love the internet. What do you remember about the World before the internet???do you remember???

Wow! Everything you said is true. I remember going to the library a lot more... not just for research, but also just to read. We did a lot more reading before the internet. We spent more time with our family and friends, going out to eat instead of ordering online. We did a lot more outdoor activities (which is probably why so many people now are overweight). We went out to the movies. We played cards (with a real deck, not on the computer) or board games. And if we wanted to play some kind of "computer" game, it was ATARI -- with space invaders and pac man and.... need I say more. Yes, I love how much easier the internet has made our world, but sometimes I kinda miss the good 'ol days. :-)

Gosh, I actually remember life before the Internet! People actually spoke face to face (not via web cams) and families sat down together to play board games or cards together. Shopping was done in real stores, and a long time ago, clerks actually helped you find things. You wrote checks to pay bills, and sent them via the US Mail. You went to a cookbook for a recipe, or asked your Mom. No Yahoo answers--information was usually found at the library. Letters were either written by hand or typed on a typewriter; you had to use an eraser to correct mistakes, taking a chance on tearing the paper. They were also sent via US Mail. A mouse was a furry little creature and a web was something a spider made. The world was much bigger then. It is nice to have everything available 24/7 and right at your fingertips, but it saddens me that future generations will never smell a musty book or a freshly mimeographed page. They will never hear the 'ping' when the typewriter tells you it is time for a new line and to return the carriage. Someday they will come across a circular eraser with a brush attached and wonder what on earth it could have been used for. The Internet is great, but I am also glad I have those memories.

Definetely different. Thats like asking what was the world like before cell phones and Ipods and MP3 players, not that I have an Ipod or MP3. We all managed our daily lives but they were much more uneventful. Now we can logg on and find love, friends, shop online, download things and all sorts of stuff. We've come a long way havent we. Sometimes I think people over use the internet, and use it as a crutch and a make believe world so they dont have to deal with their real lives, but at the same time, its a blessing. Guess its just all how you use it.

AWW, A question for the elderly... We use to look up answers in BOOKS! Watched T.V., sat outside in the summer and fall until way into the evening hours. count stars, play card games with real cards on a real table. Go fishing, write letters on a sheet of paper using an ink pen. Ask someone who could ask someone to ask someone what we needed to know.
The Internet is very cool! An amazing source of information. Just don't get lost in it. Remember to read a book, play a game of cards... hug your loved ones with out keeping one eye on the monitor. Now go enjoy the Super Information Highway!!!

It worked pretty well, and sometimes a lot less stress full.
We are used to the Internet now, and it is a great resource, but lets remember, man has achieved many great things, without the Net.
The great wall of China, The Pyramids, being two prime examples. I'm sure you can think of many others.

It was better. Things were more slow paced. There seemed to be more time to do things outdoors or with friends and family. The internet is fun, but it sure is a time waster, plus it isolates people into doing solitary activities, whereas people used to naturally gravitate towards spending time with one another. Great question, by the way.

wow to be honest i don't want to remember. I totally love the Internet if I miss the news; that ok just log on to the news website and view it there. I can communicate with my sister in the Army by sending emails, and e-cards of how much I miss her no licking stamp and envelopes! This is my window to the world.
Seriously,

It was the same as now - it just took longer to get info. However, at the same time, you wouldn't get bombarded with tons of info to scan through to find what you're looking for and people had more time to actually physically interact with one another. Sometimes, I miss the older days where you wern't "obligated" to check your email at least once a day.

Kids used to play in playgrounds...boys and girls used to meet at cafes, bars, movie theatres, etc...students used to spend hoursss at the libraries....it was nice to meet your classmates to work together on a project...sometimes I even slept over my friends' place in order to finish the assignments...we had to use type writers! just imagine, if you made a single mistake....I had pen pals (real PEN pals) in many countries....my letters reached them up to a month after I sent them....it's a long list!!...isn't it funny that now I just can't live without Internet?
