No that happens sometimes. Give him some juice or some water with karo syrup in it. And if that doesnt clear things up there is this suppository for infants called Glycerin suppositories for constipation. Just get it at your prescription shop, it worked well for my son. He cleaned himself out within 5 min's of giving him that suppository.

I believe its totally normal for a baby to not poop for 2 days, or even longer. But I presume you're asking because he usually goes more often than that. I don't think that peas have a reputation for plugging up babies...but is this his first solid food? At 5 months, that would be a lower end for introducing solids according to the new recs from the American Academy of Pediatricians as I understand it (we americans tend to want to introduce solids earlier). If he is breastfed exclusively, then poop can be quite infrequent...my 2 babies regularly went 4 or 5 days between poops when they were between 3 and 7 months while still on only breastmilk, and the doctors never worried about it when I told them/saw them about it. *BUT*, something I found quite under-considered...when exclusively breast-fed babies start making that transition to solids, I believe their systems are still 'used' to pooping once every couple days, but now the solids are creating more mass, different issues, etc. It's exactly then that a stool can be unpleasant for them to pass, and they will very very quickly come to decide not to let that process--i.e., pooping!--happen again. After all, it hurts! So I would be very aware and proactive if this is an issue of moving to solids with a baby who had been breastfed and is now changing his regularity patterns. Really, it only takes a single incident to set up a pattern of withholding, amd sometimes its not so obvious that there was pain or discomfort. I think it's best to act quickly if you suspect that there is any withholding action or pain, by giving mild pediatrician-recommended laxatives or stool-softeners so that for some time there is no problem with hard-to-pass poop..
good luck, and hope that this never becomes an issue for your little guy!

My son did the same thing at 5 months! I called the pediatrician's office and the nurse said that breastfed babies get really efficient at digesting breastmilk and food and will sometimes go 5 days without a bowel movement. It freaked me out. After I added some more foods to his diet (carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans and fruits) he went back to pooping about once a day.

The book What To Expect The First Year says that constipation is rarely a problem in breastfed babies and infrequency isn't a sign of constipation. Hard, difficult to pass stools are a sign of constipation.

Good luck!

Your baby probably needs some infant suppositories.. You can walk in to any; local pharmacy and the pharmacist will guide you to the right medication for your son, Most of the time you don't need a prescription for somthing like that. The pharmacist is experienced in symptoms and medicine sometimes even moreso than the doctor.. I know this because I work in a pharmacy.. Anyhow, if you can't contact your doctor, just ask the pharmacist about some infant suppositories or some other medicine that will help him break up the impacted stool..

2 days isn't very long to go without a bowel movement, more then 3 days is bad. Before calling the doctor I would try theese things:

*diluted prune juice (watch this causes gas)
*infant sepositories (ask a pharmacist how to use them if you aren't sure)
*increase water if formula fed
*change formula (must be aprroved by pediatrician)

If he does pass stools and they are round and pebble like it may be the iron content in the formula or he needs more water. I do not however reccomend baby enemas unless you get the doc's ok. the reason for this is that if you use enemas a lot the bowel gets used to them and your son could end up depending on the enema for a bowel movement.

I battled constapation with my daughter for a year of her life. I breastfed her for her first 5 months of life. I found once I switched to formula it made her constapation worse. From then on I tried everything from switching formulas, to sepositories, to prune juice.I found out later the reason was she had cadual regression and now she is on a perscription laxative. If you see that your son is contantly battling with contapation and you've literally tried it all I would have his pediatrician reccomend a specialist.

A baby doesn't poop for 2-3 days is still considerate normal. But if you think he is having trouble to poop. You can give him more water and some fruits. I find apple is very helpful in term of dealing with this kind of issue. In Vege, I found yam is good too. At 5 months old, your baby should be able to eat yam and apple but of course, you have to grind them and add some water so that he can eat easily. Also, doctor will usually tell u to use prune juice.

I wouldn't even worry about it at this point, unless he is obviously in pain. There are times that infants will go as long as a week without having a bowel movement and still not be cause for concern. I wouldn't think you should encounter constipation until introducing solid foods. The peas shouldn't have been the culprit. If you are truly concerned, contact your pediatrician.

particular it extremely is thoroughly conventional. Zachary went 4 days one time and that i referred to as the pediatrician and that they laughed at me. They stated to offer it some extra days and if he's no longer performing in soreness then he's basically nice. additionally they stated if i grow to be anxious i ought to provide him a teaspoon of the sparkling Karo syrup with each and every meal and that should help ease it out basically like a stool softener does that we take while pregnant. solid success. Oh and Zach in basic terms is going as quickly as every day to 3 different day many times now, so it does grow to be lots much less conventional.

Try giving your son some apple juice (if the dr. says it's okay) and prunes. You may also need to give your child a suppository (they make them for infants) to get your child to poop. But do call your doctor to see if you need to take him in.

nope....my daughter did it all the time when she was a baby. Sometimes they can go 5 days without a bowel movement.....really.........so dont worry. My doc said that as long as they are acting normal and dont appear to be in any discomfort.....they are fine. Give him some grape juice.....that may help. Prune juice definantly will, but I wouldnt make him go if he wasnt acting like his tummy hurts. Good luck....Ive been through it!
