The Jews seem to think god gave them Israel and the Muslims seem to think that god gave it to them - s the bastards are fighting over a tiny stretch of land because of the concept of god?

I want a vote on this or at least opinions we shouldn't be killing Jews or Muslims but we should kill the concept of god - most of the wars wuld end.My thoughts

"If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him." Voltaire. If it wasn't that it would be some other reason. The truth is there are too many people and not enough resources.

"With. Without. And afterall, it's what the fighting's all about". Pink Floyd, Us and Them.

You can't kill a concept, genius. You can only kill the people that have that concept in their hearts and minds. And just so you know, you are in a very very small minority in the global scale of things. Seeing as how most of the world consists of people that DO believe in a God/Gods/Godess/Godesses. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism.. the list goes on.

The fac tof the matter is that more than 3/4 of the world believes in some form of deity, because unlike you and other athiests they're not so idiotic to think that life is possible without a creator, amaker, a deity which is there.

Athiests trust so much in science and what they hear in the newsx and at so called learned universities and places of 'thought'. If these so calle dplaces of 'thought' are saying there is no God, than they are a place of idiocy.

"There is a God" ~Over 3/4 of the world's population

I don't think that the concept of God causes war--I think the concept of God is merely used to justify wars fought for other reasons. The promise of eternal reward is a good motivator when mustering an army, but without the concept of God and an afterlife, different motivations could be used. The root of most wars is nationalism, and whether people believe in God or not, they will still feel the need to belong to, and defend the honor of, a collective group.

I don't think that the concept of "God" has too much to do with wars. Most of them are fought with nationalism in mind. Nations want to rule as much territory as some leader decides the nation should rule. I do not think that Pol Pot murdered millions of Cambodians because of religion; he was an atheist. Stalin killed millions of Russians in Siberia, he, too, was an atheist. Both of these leaders carried on campaigns- wars, if you please, against their own people as atheistic leaders.
I do not think that the Muslims are thinking about "God" when they kill Jews, nor are Jews thinking about "God" when they kill Muslims. This is an old hatred, partly based in two very different religions, and partly based on tradition. These two sides hate each other because they have "always hated each other."
I agree that it would be the greatest thing we could do if we could end war. But no one has figured out any way yet that has worked.

I think different notions or god are one factor around which people create identities and it can be a serious source of conflict because religion does not allow you to be critical.

I think Nationalism is equally dangerous because you cannot question nation either and are supposed love it irrespective of what it stands for.

Third i think is ideology... if you take it too seriously, it can blind you from actual reality and your loyalty to an idea becomes more important than existing reality.

Both 'belief' and 'reason' can be dangerous. Because beyond a point what is reason but a belief!
For example an uncritical belief in modernity can become as oppressive as belief in God. It can cause more unquestionable ecological and cultural damage than any known force in history.

Worse still is when nationalism, religion and modernity are married into a single bundle! Think how to explode all this!!

I think criticality is important.

No, it is not god who is to blame. It is religion which has very little or nothing to do with god what so ever. Each major religion thinks they own god and refuse to allow the others to play.
I think we should kill all the priests and religious leaders and ban religion. Then in a few generations we might come to be a bit more spiritual and those who want to worship god can do so in peace without all this insane drama. Religion is mass control of the people which has lost its usefulness.

Wow...I've never thought of it this way, but yeah, you're right! So many wars that's happened, and so many wars that are happening currently are all caused by the concept of God. Unfortunately, half of your answeres from now on will be answered by brainwashed Christians telling you something like "GOD HAVE SAVED US ALL! GOD DOES NOT CREATE WARS! GOD IS BLAHBLAHABLHABLAH!!!"..

If you look back at history. Most wars were fought in God's name. Alot of murder was for God. I know the middle east would be different. But wars would still be waging because of politics.

There is some support for the idea that religion is the root of all evil More specifically, fanaticism in the support of religion certainly has caused its share of hatred, conflicts and wars.

its not god thats the problem its the concept of religion. the religions of both groups promised isreal to them. the holy books say god said it. those books written by men of the religions. if everyone believed in just one god and gave up religion, wars would almost disappear.
