Okay, I turned in my two weeks notice on Wednesday, and I was too chicken to stay while my boss read it. So I went home. Now, I'm kind of nervous because I have to work tomorrow, and I'm afraid there's going to be some tension or awkwardness because of it. How has your experience been at work when you give a two week notice, do people treat you differently. I've only been working there a month and a half, so I'm not really attached to anyone, but I'm still afraid that my boss is going to be mad at me. One assistant mananger is always mean and giving me attitude... and I'm really dreading her the most.

I just wanted to say the main reason that I'm leaving is because my mom said she doesn't want me to work during the school year. She's afraid my grades will suffer, she's probably right.

First and foremost - you are a student. I PROMISE you that your grades will suffer if you try to go to school and work at the same time. Trust me on this one - 7 years of experience, and counting. I have worked and gone to school the whole time - except for 1.5 years, when I was an RA in the dorms. My first semester of not working - my GPA went from a 3.3 to a 4.0. And it has stayed that way. I just have to really struggle. If you can avoid working - do it! By all means.

Secondly, if your boss is going to be mad at you for quitting work to go back to school, than they were never really concerned about your well-being. No one should ever be mad at their employee for going back to school to better themself if they care about the employee at all. Period.

The manager who you dread the most is the one that you should worry about the least. Screw her. You won't have to put up with her crap in two weeks. Some people forget to remove the stick from their butt before coming to work.

Finally, they should be happy that you gave them a two week notice. From your situation, it sounds like you are a typical college student - young, probably had a typical college student job. Most younger employees don't even give a two week notice. They just quit coming to work - nocall, no show. Besides, it's not like you were the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Relax. Trust me - they will replace you.

I was nervous when I quit my first job (a cashier at Food Lion) to go work in a clothing store. I was afraid they would all be mad at me. But now, I go in there, and no one even remebers that I ever worked there. Even just a few months after I quit, some people didn't remember my name. Don't feel bad. They didn't treat me differently. Instead of saying see you tomorrow when you leave, they just say see you around. Relax. Even if they are mad at you - so what. You've only got two weeks left, right?

PS - Don't tell off your boss (even the bi+chy one). Your next job will call for references. If you tell off one of your bosses, even if it isn't the one you list as a reference (I'm assuming that you would list the nicer boss), that negative experience sticks in their mind. Don't do it! You'd be shooting yourself in the foot. Just keep thinking, "Two weeks. Just two more weeks."

Yikes sorry on that I hope everything works out. I too put in my two weeks notice, but unlike you, I've worked for the company for about 7 months and it was easy for me, because my boss is nice, just like the other people I work with. Well, if this biitch keeps giving you a hard time, tell her off, I mean you're leaving anyways, and you can't let her walk all over you. As for you boss situation, I hate having to face them for whatever reason-I'm like you, I feel for anything they start dismaying anything you say etc. Just act like it's no big, and tell them for the short time you were there it was good and your thankful.

They might treat you a little differently but that's a sign of their unprofessional behavior, not yours. Your boss may ask you to leave without completing the two weeks, but s/he may not. Just go in and do your job as usual. It will be okay. Good luck to you.

You must care a lot about what people think. I have a defiant personality, so when I quit a job, I'm usually pretty happy.

just do your job until you can leave. since you were only only there for a month and a half, you probably shouldn't use it as a reference.

IF ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT MAKE YOU FEEL SO BAD ANYWAY SAY ANYTHING TO YOU JUST EXPLAIN THAT THEY ARE PART OF THE REASON THAT YOU NEED TO GO. YES, THERE PROBABLY WILL BE TENSION WHILE YOU ARE STILL THERE...BUT I SAY KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS YOU NEVER KNOW IF YOU MAY COME UP AGAINST THEM IN THE WORLD OF JOBS AGAIN. MY BEST TO YOU. DON'T LET IT GET YOU DOWN JUST MOVE ON AND UPWARD.
