Since I seem to be the only one who wants to answer the actual question...
"Hip hop" and "rap music" mean virtually the same thing. However, some people associate the term "rap" with the more mainstream variety of the genre and reserve the term "hip hop" for the variety of the genre that stays closer to the roots of hip hop music (i.e. - speaking on social and/or political issues, storytelling, bragging about one's lyrical skills while roasting another MC, etc.).

wow i never found so much close minded ignorant garbage come from so many different rich white kids...but any who heres a real answer. it depends on how you look at it for most people. to some rap is more of style or sub-genere that focus on the "Lyricsist" actuall flow and rhyme songs that focus on that. hip hop is more broden term, its the base for old school to new school, usually people refer now-a-days as old school style meaningful knowledge songs are considered real hip hop, and rap is like the new style of todays age be it being "gangster" or just being a Lyricsist.

Hip hop is a more general term for the style of music...Rap can be considered more of a sub genre..such as "gangsta rap"..but gangsta rap isn't all hip hop music, just that sub genre

rappers talk all fast and rhyme talkin about bad stuff like drugs and gangsters killing and all that
