Depends on the intestate laws of the state of the decedant. Normally the surviving brothers or sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or cousins if no family then the money escheats. Reverts to the state and is kept as unclaimed funds for either a period of time or in perpetuity. Every state has intestate laws. If there is no will, and one partner dies, the other partner inherits. If both partners die, then each state has rules for intestate sucession. Usually, parents, then siblings would inherit the estate. If there are no surviving family members, then the estate escheats to the state, meaning that the state gets the estate.
