Anything can increase your self esteem if you allow it to. Waitressing can make a person more confident because you are dealing with people all of the time and people seem to respect the waitress because they already have an image of them being friendly and hospitable.

When you are confident you feel good. Being a waitress can help one overcome shyness and help you increase your social skills.

If you like yourself and your job, that right there should be a boost to your self esteem. You are working an honest job, where tips can be many and made honestly.
You may encounter people who are down right rude but you continue on in a professional manner. That indeed should bring self esteem into your life for being a good waitress and tolerating those who have to be a nuisance.
Who knows you can meet new people and if not married...who knows, you could meet a customer who turns out to be Mr. Right. Be Proud of who you are.
