I am having trouble with my transmission in a 1998 Blazer. I took it by Auto Zone for the ODM codes and the codes are P1870 and P0102. Where can I find out what they mean. I have heard it is a code for a bad valve body. Is it a big deal to replace. It says on the machine Transfer case 4x4 switch short circuit to battery. Has anyone had any experience with this? Could it possibly be just the automatic switch? And is it expensive. I just bought the car a week ago, and I am a single woman and don't want to be taken advantage of so am trying to get some info so this won't happen. It was fine when I left the dealer, and started doing this after about 100 miles and has gotten worse. Could it have just gone out, or did the dealer know? Is there a way to make sure they fix it?
Please Help!

A P0102 is a Mass Air Flow sensor circuit low frequency code, which could be a bad MAF sensor, this is not a major repair, and is quite common to get a bad mass air flow sensor with higher mileage. Expect to pay a couple hundred for this repair if the MAF needs to be replaced, as the part is not inexpensive. A P1870 is a transmission component slipping code, and is not a good sign. It is possible that the transmission is defective and will need to be replaced or rebuilt. The 4L60E transmission does have it's concerns just like any other, and this is an expensive repair. I would be fairly certain the dealer knew about the concern, and just cleared the check engine light to sell vehicle. Beware, if you did not purchase from a reputable dealer, they may have tried to pull one over on you. If you just bought the vehicle and have driven just 100 miles, you have rights and are not obligated to keep the defective vehicle. You have 72 hours before the sale is final. But, you have had it a week already so ,you may need the services of a lawyer. This is not good business practice. Don't get stuck with a major repair, let them know who is boss! If they gave you a warranty of 3 months or 3,000 miles, which most used dealers do, make sure they hold up their end of the bargain.

The person that ran the ODB codes at Auto Zone should have been able to look them up. You can try to do a web search to locate the correct codes. If it really is a problem with valve body you don't want just anyone fooling with it, it could end up messing up the transmission further. Get a second opinion, you probably have a bad switch or sensor. Haven't owned any Blazers, but it sounds like a common problem. Stay away from any "chain" transmission shops unless you know someone there. They will always try to sell you a rebuilt trans insted of fixing yours.

Will the dealer repair it for free; since you have had it for less than a month? If not, you could try getting it fixed by a local vocational school for the price of the parts only. The students are usually closely supervised and can always use the experience. Let me here how it comes out.

I still drive a 1998 Jeep and it still can outrun alot of new SUVs and cars.

Good luck !

You bought a used car, so most states sell these "as-is". And a 1998 is pretty old, so it won't be under a manufacturer's warranty anymore. Did the place you bought from have any warranty at all?

Replacing valves is not what the average person does. Switches may or may not be easier.

But in the end, you ask a lot of question that are unfortunately hard to answer without seeing your car in person. Do you have anyone you can trust to help you? If not, then go to several places and get quotes. Try your local Better Business Bureau on the web and get some places. Get them to give you quotes. If you really don't know what's up with a car, then get at least 3 quotes. It's a lot of work, I know, but if you really are concerned, you'd be better off playing it safe.

"CAN" potential administration area community. I have not considered a Fault Code record for MBz speedier Diesels, yet C1022 is probable referring to an situation interior the Chassis - ABS anti-lock brake gadget. i'd look to exercising recurring if replacing out the useful pc or ABS Controller card can make any huge distinction. it ought to favor to be that moisture or some cable connection to the hydraulic ABS gadget has been damaged, disconnected or dampened for the length of the lengthy sitting era. Your useful pc has detected a DTC situation causing you to be compelled properly right into a "Limp homestead Mode" that seems to you as no engine potential.
