Over the years I've voted sometimes for Democrats, sometimes for Republicans, but always for the more Moderate candidate.
There was a time that I had high respect for (even when I didn't agree with them) what Republicans stood far because some of their concerns I share, like maintaining a strong military.
The problem with the Republican Party today is that they have become infested by a small and frightening group of men who are to the extreme right, who have virtually no morals and who are sending our country into bankruptcy.
The Democrats are also guilty of representing too small a fraction of the country and they've lost their core voters because of this.

For those of you right-leaning people, I've always felt that the Republican Party is the party of delusion, while the "real" Democrat party is the party of inclusion. While I agree that theoretically, the Republican view on economics is a better idea, the fact is that in reality, it doesn't work. It never has and never will. Why? Because there is a little thing I like to call "greed." Giving more tax breaks to corporations and a lessened regulatory environment doesn't lead to lower prices, higher wages, and greater job growth. In fact, it leads to exactly the opposite, as evidenced over the last 6 years.
Now, while the Democrat Party that exists today is not the party I grew up with, and the leadership of the party is, in fact, whiny and ignorant, the ideals of the party are still there, and if people pay attention, they will see that it is. It's just that the Dem leadership has allowed the Repubs to walk all over them. The Democratic Party is the party that believes in greater quality of life for "all" Americans, not just the elite. As the lower class' quality of life improves, the upper class will as well. We believe in improving public education, not ignoring it. We believe in creating jobs for Americans, not shipping them overseas. To make it simple, we believe in all Americans, not just the people who pay them.

I agree with you totally. I've always loathed the Democrats but now I can't embrace the Republicans either. Why can't either side tell the truth and recognize what would benefit the masses? As for the religious reich; once again, why can't THEY see truth & live and let live?
For years I lived a brain programmed life and didn't know any difference. It's just been in the last five years that I decided I had just as much common sense as anyone, even my leaders. Hence, I agree with you and your question. Thanks for asking it.

I went the other way. When i was younger I though people were too stupid to know what to do with their lives and I wanted the government to come in and tell people what they should do (i was cynical). Now I realize the importance of freedom and capitalism. Thats why i'm a Republican now. (actually im a libertarian but when do i ever get a chance to vote for one)

Me for one. Then I became a Liberal. Now I don't have to think about the tough questions. I just blame Bush. Life is so much easier now. God Bless. Sorry can't say that since my conversion. Earth Bless YOU!
I thought you were a Libertarian? If so, you are spending way to much time on logical thought. It is much easier to simply call people names.

You're fed up because the neocons have taken over the Conservative party. The current leaders of the conservative party have changed the ideology of conservatism.
You should read "Conservative Without Conscience" by John Dean. It will help you understand what's happened.
It would benefit us all if the conservative party could free itself from their control.

In my youth I used to be more left-leaning, then I became angry at them so much I became very right leaning ... but now I am old enough not to have enough energy to be passionate about either way, so I guess I am somewhat in the middle, though a tad closer to conservative than not.

Sorry, since I've learned so much about whiny Democrats, I've become a Republican. You know, the party that's protecting your tree hugging @$$e$ from Islamic militants known as terrorists.
You're welcome.
