It annoys me. I'm not black, I'm brown...

I'm not white. I'm beige. Or "Natural Ivory" if you believe my makeup. It's still beige. A little more or less melanin should not make so much difference.

I am a white dude, but if you look at my skin, it is quite beige. Where do we draw the line? I don't know. It doesn't bother me because I am not prejudiced toward the different races. It is nothing more than a description to me like brown hair or red hair? I also have a lot of Black friends, and we often refer to people as "light skinned black" "honey colored" or whatever gets the point across when we just need a description. Like anything, I think the tone behind the quest is what can make it a disturbing issue, or a completely benign one.

it does not matter whether you are light brown or dark brown. If your parents are of African descent, you are black (or African American). My skin is lighter than a lot of white people's but I am still Mexican-American. Why are you ashamed of being called black? I mean, if you don't like black, then tell people you prefer the term African-American. And why would people call you black? I mean, why don't they just call you by your name? Do they say: "Oh, there's my black friend ____." ??? What's that about.

First of all you should not define yourself by the color of your skin you should define yourself by the person that you are. You are an African-American, you are an American. Just because other define you as a Black American it only matters how you look at yourself. Be proud of who you are no matter what people call you. Be a Proud Brown-Skinned American if that is what you want to be...

Are you African American? If you are African American, that is why. There are light-skinned blacks, dark-skinned blacks, all various and sundry shades of black---but still African American.

What's wrong with that?

If you are not African American, then I can see where you might be a bit annoyed. Are you multi-racial?

America is a melting pot---sometimes all the colors get mixed in. And that's a good thing!

I'm politically incorrect, but when an African American is a lighter shade I call them salt-n-pepper babies. Eventually all of AMERICANS will be even shade of brown. Its not like it was back when people picked partners of the same ethnicity. Anymore who can tell who is what....... and who cares? If you're offended say something or stop being so sensitive. People can be, and often are, ignorant.

You should not let it get to you. I come from west africa, I'm very light skined, pointy nose, very long hair, (my country was colonized by the Europeans) so my family is very mixed, my ex is from my country my son has white skin, hazel eyes, and fine hair. I used to get mad when asked if i was black, hispanic or Indian, now I just smile and let it go. Find out about your heritage and embrace it. good luck

I was wondering this too- Im not white, Im brown, its summer. And Im part native american. Im looked down upon for honoring my native roots but I do not care, all of my ancestors are important to me, no matter what color they are.

How about choosing no box or label?

that's how some folks call it --- the US government still has that one drop theory --- one drop of black blood and that makes you black(have to go five generations before you aren't considered of the black race to them) --- I hold a Canadian driver's license - no listing of color ---- (I wonder why the US doesn't do that?)

That is like saying why do we call white people that are pale white when they aren't. They are pale. Or why do we call white people white when sum are red? Take pride in your heritage! Be proud to be black!

WELL BLACK PEOPLE COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS.
PEOPLE COSIDER A COLOR A RACE AND I THINK IT'S STUPID ALSO.
WHITE IS NOT A RACE.(BUT EUROPEANS CALL THEMSELVES WHITE)
YELLOW IS NOT A RACE(BUT ASIANS CALL THEMSELVES YELLOW)
BLACK IS NOT A RACE BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?
JUST BE PROUD OF YOURSELF AND LOVE YOURSELF.
DON'T CONCENTRATE ON WHAT OTHERS SAY.

THE COLOR THING ACTUALLY STARTED BECAUSE EUROPEAN SETTLERS WANTED TO DEGRADE AFRICANS.
THE COLOR BLACK IS ALWAYS REFERED TO AS SOMETHING NEGATIVE.
GET IT?
SO BY CALLING US BLACK,THEY WERE TRYING TO SAY WE WERE EVIL.
THEY CALL THEMSELVES WHITE TO MAKE THEM SEEM PURE AND HOLY.

I GUESS THE COLOR THING JUST STUCK WITH EVERYONE AND HERE WE ARE.

BUT PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU BECAUSE YOU OBVOIUSLY ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOURSELF AND HATE BLACKWOMEN.
I HOPE YOU GET YOUR ISSUES IN ORDER.
