Some motorcycles have a feature built into the ignition switch that requires you to turn the handle bars all the way to one side before you can remove the key. This then locks the handle bars in that direction so that when the key is removed no one can steal the bike simply by rolling it away in a straight line, say into the back of a truck, as the bike will only roll in circles with the fork locked to one side.

He probably bent (twisted) the key and it's stuck in the ignition. He can try to straighten it. Turn the ignition to on and the key should point straight foward and back. Twist the key to bend it straight and pull it out at the same time. If it breaks, try to get it out with a pick. Other wise take the switch to a locksmith or buy a new switch.

if its broke then take the handle of the key and put superglue on the broken part and put the key in the ignition and let the glue dry then pull the key out. other than that you are on your own
