Oh, man, there are thousands. You need to decide by subject.
Some of my favorites are at the Hubbell Space Telescope site -- http://hubblesite.org/ -- ,ost images there include different size desktop wallpaper versions. See this,for example:

Free wallpaper site are very bad at infecting you with spyware and adware, viruses and Trojans also. Go here and download the free McAfee program called Site Advisor. It will warn you of sites that will infect you. Then just Google for "Free Wallpapers" and you will get a ton of sites. Many will be Red and Yellow. Then you can go to the green one and be safe. If no color then it hasn't been tested.

do you want wallpaper for your house, or a desktop background? if you want a desktop background, right click on an image and select set as background. works for all images

google(got to images have it set to only do large images find one u like , right click, set as backround and done
