said that he wished i died and he hated me.. so, i made him get out of the car and finished walking to school....and then he did not go to school and came home, and pushed me out of the way.. and stole my cell phone..and then ran down the street.. ((running away from home )) and he seemed out of control... and the neighbors called the police cuz they saw me try to get my cell phone back... was I WRONG TO tell the police he stole my cell phone? and pushed me ? I was TRYING to teach him a lesson,, so he doesn't try to be boss of the house and teach him he must have respect and follow rules..(single mom here) and i wanted to "nip it in the bud"" but everyone tell me that I should have "covered " for him...and told the police he did nothing wrong.. but then he prob. would repeat that behavior... now we must go to court... he will prob. get probation....... WAS I WRONG ?????????????????

If you hadn't told the cops what happened exactly, they probably would have gotten you for child abuse. I think you did the right thing. Always tell the truth.

I think you did the right thing, I have a 14 year old son that doesn't show respect, follow rules, and tried to run my house. I tried everything from spanking, grounding and removing previlages. Nothing helped untill one day he pushed me and started to hit me, I knew I needed to put an end to his behavior right now!!! So I called the police and he was put on house arrest and now has to go back to court... So far he has straightened up and is working on showing respect and now follows rules... Hope this helps to know that you aren't the only one that has a situation like this and if you would like to chat about some of this situation please feel free to email me at hunterdog98@yahoo.com

No ! I also have a 16 yr old and it seems when your 16 you can start to act like an adult. I to called the police on mine and probably will many more times. I think it teaches them they have to be responsible for there actions. Mine got 12hrs boot camp and thinks it funny . She wont next time. I have been told I need to start being a mom instead of her friend . Its hard. But I know I did the right thing. And later as she looks back on it she will know you did to. Good luck to you. Be strong!

I don't think you should've let it get to the point where you had to go to court, but I think that it was fair for him to reap the consequences for his actions. Sometimes a mother needs to show tough love to their children. Always make sure that you tell them that you have a reason for doing what you did and ALWAYS tell them that you love them- no matter what. A lot of teens need to learn things the hard way because they feel that they know everything. Trust me, I'm a teen myself. But I also think that in this situation, you probably acted a little crazy yourself and gave him a reason to be sooo upset with you. Always remember that that's your son and you want to do whats best for him and you'll never get another one like him. Also, you should tell him that he's not grown yet and you can still beat the s*** outta him. It worked for me.

You have done the right thing for two reasons. Firstly, you teach people how to treat you. By drawing a limit with your son, you have shown yourself clearly as the authority in your household, and have no qualms in enforcing rules. Secondly, had you lied to the police, they would know it immediately. As you had not placed to call, witnesses were present and would have been questioned.
Do hold to your position with those who disagree, as they do not have your interests at heart. Bad behaviour escalates going unchecked, and he is reaching an age where he shall be treated as an adult by your courts. Eventually, he shall thank you for it, dear.
Best of luck to you.

I dont think you were wrong. You were right. You told the truth what really happen. You need to knock the **** out of him, and have strict punishments. If he thinks he is grown, and feels he can try to bully his mother and treat her any kid of way and dont show no respect. I would send him to either boot camp or a military school. He will come back a changed person.

NO...you were not wrong...what you done was RIGHT

you have no choice but to stop it now or it's just goin to keep getting worse. you cant protect someone whos out of control

tough love....there's nothing wrong with it

dont feel bad for doing what you done........if most parents would just back off from their kids and let them find out the hard way that life isnt going to be a cake walk....then there wouldnt be so many killings, gangs, crap like that. parents need to understand that protecting their kid isnt always in their best interest.

congrats for standing your ground!!!!!!!!!

I think he should of at least been turned over to the law and maybe it will teach him a lesson. He has to understand that he is a monor and cant be running all over and also pushing you too.

No, he shouldn't have done what he did in the first place, you probably gave him one of the best lessons anyone can get. If you steal, you go to jail, now he'll know what the experience is like and it may change his attitude.

No, you are not wrong. Your neighbors need to mind their own business and let you handle your son the way you see fit. I too have four of those aliens here and beliebe me if I let them they would run all over me.
