I was at an NC State game (my alma mater), when our kicker sent the kickoff through the uprights. Of course, it didn't count as a score, just a touchback.

Unless it was broken in the past few years:

In Division I-A football there is a tie for the longest field goal....67 yards
...between...
Russell Erxleben 10/1/77 in a game between Texas and Rice
Steve Little 10/15/77 in a game between Arkansas and Texas ..and...
Joe Williams 10/21/78 in a game between Witchita State and Southern Illinois....
(the seventies seem to have been a good decade for kickers..was it the bell-bottom pants??)
other FG records include:
Martin Gramatica for 65 yds..the longest without a tee
and 61 yards for the longest NCAA kick by a true Freshman.

David James did a segment a while back for some TV show (might have been Football Focus on the BBC, can't remember exactly) where he tried to see if he could break the NFL record of 65 yards. He started off thinking no problem as most premiership goalkeeper regularly kick over 70 yards in a match. However due to differences in aerodynamics and even technique he found he could barely kick the American football over 40 yards.

It was Oct. 16, 1976, when Abilene Christian University's Ove Johansson booted the historic 69-yard field goal with 2:13 remaining in the first half of ACU's 17-0 homecoming victory over East Texas State.
