Don't you think this is stupid!?

Question

well a few days ago i was on yahoo! answers right. i was getting off to goto bed. it was like 4:20am. and to my surprise my dad happened to be getting up for work. he was like you're on the computer!? ok so he kinda yelled at me and we argued a bit. and i just went to sleep and i woke up and my mom told me in the morning i wasn't aloud on here anymore cuz he thinks it is like a chat room and also i am on the computer way too much and he thinks i was better b4 i ever found this site. but my mom talked to him and now i am aloud on again.

i know it was real early in the morning but hello whats wrong with that i don't have school it is summer! what do you think of that situation? do you think i was wrong if so why?

Ok, well this is absolutely amazing that you have this problem...cuz girl...so do I!!! I stay on till approximately 5 a.m. everyday. I mean, not on this site the whole time, I talk to friends on AIM and I get on myspace, etc. But my parents are all, you need to go to sleep. BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!

But...all last summer..I slept in till 3, sometimes even 5 pm. This year, I go to bed at 5 a.m. and get up at 11:30 and I'm fine. I'm not tired throughout the day or anything. And yet, my parents are on me 24/7 about it. Well recently I think they finally took a hint and just got off it. Cuz I'm getting up and doing what they ask me to around the house. My mom just doesn't like me sleeping in. She doesn't really mind what time I go to bed anymore.

My dad is JUST like yours. I mean, they might as well be the same person. My dad is all anti-internet, anti-aim, anti-myspace, anti-computer...whatever!!! He thinks I come on here and go I live at....My phone number is...My full birth name and birthday are...I mean, come on, I'm not an idiot. I know what I'm doing. I'll be a senior this year comin up, I can pretty much handle my sleeping time. I get up when needed. I almost always work off of 4-5 hours of a sleep a day when I have school.

My whole life, I've had a problem with sleeping. Once I'm asleep, I could sleep 24 hours if I wanted. The problem is, I can't fall asleep. I'm horrible at it. If I go to bed on a school night at 10 p.m...which I do...I don't fall asleep until AT LEAST 1 a.m. I have a horrible time sleeping. That's just the way it's always been. So during the day, I do what is needed, and at night time I do what is fun for me, which is getting online.

I mean, we are only kids once, and as long as my parents understand that I'm not doing anything that could cause someone to stalk me down and rape me, I'm gonna have fun. I'm a good kid, gone to church my whole life, don't drink, don't do drugs. So for me, getting online is what I like to do in my free time and it's not bad in my opinion. Like I said, we're only kids once, when we're adults, we'll have jobs and children of our own and we won't have time to do many things that we want to. Isn't having fun and appreciating what we have what we're supposed to do when we're kids, as long as we're safe.

So in conclusion...I think that as long as you aren't tryin to hook up with 30 year old men and you aren't handing out personal information, you're fine. And also, as long as you aren't falling asleep during the day and you are helping around with your parents. As long as you do as they say, the most likely won't have a problem with your night internet time. That's what my parents are doing.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It was right for your mother to defend you. Sometimes fathers can be overprotective. If you know your dad is around or expecting you to do something, don't get on. I think it's dumb, but I'm sure it will blow over. If your dad is home ask him for you two to go and do something together. If he says no, then you have a defence. If he attacks you about being on Yahoo! Answers, say, "Well, I wanted us to do something, but you didn't, so I got on the computer. Do you want to do something now?" If he still doesn't want to do anything, then say, "Ok, Dad, I want to be on for a little while. In about 1/2 an hour or so, I'll get off and (insert activity here, such as riding a bike)." That should fix that problem. Good Luck!

First of all - it is allowed, not aloud.
Second of all - were you seriously on here all night?
That is not healthy for anyone.
I would say your dad is concerned because this may be becoming an addiction. If you are on here THAT long, there is a problem. Parents have to be careful of the Internet with their kids these days. There are some sicko's out there just waiting to prey on you. Be careful and try to not spend so much time on here, it isn't good for you.

It depends how old you are I guess., and how productive you are in the day. As parents, we don't want our children to develop bad habits, you know, like staying up all night and sleeping all day.
But if I were you, I would show him what it is. I know there are a lot of weirdos here, but as long as you stay away from them, you should be OK. And, like you said, it IS your summer vacation. Staying up all night on the computer is a lot better than what a lot of others are doing. At least you're in the safety of your own home, and not giving out any personal information. ( Hopefully !!! )

If you have to be awake at a certain time you need yo get off this site an dgo to bed so you can get a normal ammount of sleep. But beyond that there's nothing wrong. Allnighters on yahoo answers are fun

As a parent, I would have to side with your parents.. just because there are some nasty people on the internet.. not to mention, there is NO reason you should be getting to bed that late at night (er.. in the morning)... especially if you are young enough to be going back to school this fall. But that is just my opinion. I wouldnt let my kids get away with it either... sorry!

No,course you weren't wrong. I mean dude when will parents realize that its summer!.It a time where we stuff our faces with junkfood and see how long we can stay up at night lol.Their always paranoid but i no why because their r krazii ppl out there!!And hello your helping and answering questions so i mean hey that makes the world a better place i think lol. Atleast one question and answer at a time! My mom always freaks on me when i'm on aim talking to my friends and she's like ur friends are on at 1am.And i'm like yeah! and shes like u need 2 get off.But i jst wait till she sleeps and watch music videos till then and then get on lol. I mean this summer is really boring and theirs nothing to do except watch t.v. and get on the computer! lol and a couple of nights ago i stayed up late to watch aar perform on sound stage and my mom was like ur really OBSESSED u actually no when and where they perform on t.v. all the time! yeah she thinks i'm krazii for doing that, but i was pissed because i recorded it on tivo and some1 i think it was my brother deleted it! Those performances were the highlights of my day! now its gone! Yeah i'm still bummed about that. =( lol. I miss seeing nick rock out live on t.v. lol! ughh i'll get over it give me a year lol..jk..well hope this helps

only it's 11:00 pm here.... but usually the fight is with my mom, so far i have my music taken from me!!! *tears, i haven't heard any song i like other than Miss Murder, they weren't around,... and i've had my friends gone, they gave my number out to some boys in the next town,....hopefully i don't get grounded from the internet, right now, this is the only thing i have.... but i hope u and ur family get that settled out.

you shouldn't stay on this site at 4:30 AM!!!! you need sleep, if you're deprived of sleep you get cranky and mean and nobody wants to be around you! plus, if you get used to staying up that late, when school comes you will be out of sync.

Think about this! You, as of now, still don't know whether it was wrong or not but , argued with your parents anyway. Now, you still don't trust their judgment and are asking total strangers. Do you think we know what's good for better than they do?

how old are you? 4:20 is late to be staying up, but if you are in 11 or 12 th grade, I dont see that it is hurting anything, since you dont have school, dad should be glad you wern't out that late!
