absolutely no.

you see, in business, practicality counts.

My boss who receives a thousand emails a day only uses a free gmail 2GB+ storage. To note that he earns millions of dollars a month in his global outsourcing business (there are brances in the Philippines, India, China, New Zealand, the US mainland, etc...)

what he does is just filter the mails to respective folders, and clean them up as needed...

and note that he's not just the one doing that style!

I have several websites and therefore have my own site addresses for my use. I still maintain a few free accounts as well for pleasure correspondence but was unaware I was low class for using them. However in your defense several of the search engines do not accept free email accounts because of the free website addresses connected to them and they are trying to clean up some of the garbage out on the web. The free sites have eaten up lots of web space with little or no useful information and left abandoned for years after their owners were bored with them and can not be parked because of outdated.

But at the very least I would have to ask you if your addresses are connected with a company owned site or are they merely a email address from a search company whether you need to pay for access or not. Hmmm the only way you can have your own is to establish a website, purchase the url and use the web mail address you decide on. So just how much class do you have? I feel like I have plenty class even when I use a free mail account such as hotmail or yahoo. Boy that hurt didn't it!

No, not at all.

When Gmail first came out, it was considered the height of leet to have a gmail account.

Business wise, if you run a website, you are expected to have an email address from that domain and you do look less well established if you don't. But in general there isn't anything wrong with a free email.

Well no, but most often free web services, will be blocked on more professional based emails, sometimes, hotmail aol, or yahoo, will be blocked on some people's outlook expresses, or buisness based email servers, to prevent spam, because most spammers use free email based domains.

I use Yahoo, for everyday emailing, if it's personal, like talking to my bill collectors, or landlords, and every day things.
But at work i have a seperate email, with my work's domain. I wont mix my personal with work.
So i do the majority of my email from Yahoo, which is free.
(web based emails are better anyways, because you can read them whenever, once you download them from a pop server on outlook, they are stuck on that computer, and you cant get them from another computer unless you're right there, or connected to it, if you need too)

I think that John J has it about right--business execs look more professional to have their own business email (myname@mycompany.com) but I think for the average person, a free email account is just evidence of the technology age.

I tend to use my hotmail and yahoo account with my friends, my work email for business, and my gmail account for resumes, etc. With as many email servers that we all have available to us, it's easy to keep a free email address serious and professional for such correspondence; that's why I keep fun ones, and a professional one.

Anyone paying for Email out there is getting ripped off. I have yahoo, hotmail, and Gmail accounts. I got other things to spend my money on.

Nobody can tell the difference between a free or a paid yahoo mail, hot mail or any other type of account.

No, considering pretty much every e-mail service is free, so I don't consider it low class in any way.

it's a sign of the times. people want anonymity so they can tell lies and get away with it. then if it all doesn't work out instantly, they can just change to a new profile. doesn't work though - a fake is easy to spot.
