Does being effaced mean labor is coming sooner or does being dialated mean labor is coming sooner?
I have heard that people can go days with being 3 cm dialated before labor comes but I never hear about women who are effaced a certain amount and go days before labor. I am 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated. Does that also mean labor is close for me?

oh also my due date is 5 days away. I was wondering what are the percentages that women actually give birth to there baby on their due date and what are the percentages for women who go into labor before their due date, because I have been having a lot of cramps.

Well I'm not sure if effaced means your coming sooner or dialated means your coming sooner. However my friend's baby was due on October 29 and she had him on October 29, however if your due date is five days away and you 50% effaced and 1cm dialated I doubt you will last that long, but stranger things have happened. I wish you the best of luck with your new baby!

Neither necessarily means that labor is going to be faster it depends on the baby. Being effaced and dialating usually happens at the same time but you have to be effaced before you can push the baby out because it doesn't matter if you are 10cm dialated if your cervix is not thinned out then you won't be able to push the baby out. Being effaced is the thinning of the cervix and dialation is the opening of the cervix.

How much you are effaced, is a measurement of how thinned out your cervix is...and the thinner it is, the closer you are to being done with labor :) , however it needs to coincide with being dilated also...

but it goes at it's own pace, so just b/c you're 50% now, doesn't mean you'll be anymore effaced than that on your due date...

Like for instance, when I went in for my 36wk check, I was 3cm dilated/30% effaced, and I was the same right after my water broke at 41wks...

I didn't stay that way for long though, and voila 4 hrs later, I had my son!

Effacion and dialation are corosponding events. But usually you fully efface before you are fully dialated.
